Well...
Last night was the series premiere of Syfy’s Stargate Universe and although MGM’s (the studio who produces the show) PR team is in full spin mode, the premiere numbers really aren’t anything to be happy about. The two-hour premiere drew a 1.7 HH rating and 2.35M viewers, with 1.12M viewers within the A18-49 demo, and 1.32M within the Adults 25-54 demo.
Well...

Date: 2009-10-04 09:54 am (UTC)I wouldn't have premiered it on a Friday night. I'd guess that a lot of their target audience would be out on a Friday night.

Date: 2009-10-04 04:38 pm (UTC)As long as this heads into a survival/exploration thing and not a political infighting mishmash (one of the reasons I didn't care for BSG), I'll be just fine with it. I'll give it a couple of more episodes before passing final judgment.

Date: 2009-10-04 05:28 pm (UTC)For me it was easy not to watch it. In this show there's nothing left of what I loved in SGA. I don't like the actors, I don't like the characters. And gratuitous sex (boinking someone against the wall? really?), killing off characters and politicking is just not my thing.
But to each their own :)

Date: 2009-10-04 07:58 pm (UTC)The sex against the wall doesn't bother me. I think it was a little necessary to showcase their elicit relationship, which is probably going to come back and bite them on the ass because now the woman is a direct subordinate to the Lt. Yeah, they could have shown their relationship in some other way but I think it's mainly just physical for them so showing coy glances and sly touches wasn't going to be enough.
The main drawback for me right now is that, agreeing with you, I don't like the characters. The only actors (left) I really know are Robert Carlysle and Ming-Na and while I do like them, I don't like their characters so far.
To keep me watching they're going to have to hook me in with at least a couple of their characters. True, most people aren't their best under extreme pressure (they can't all be John Sheppards *G*) but a little more likability is going to be needed to keep me.
