Thanks to redina's entry, I stumbled across a rambly post of the evilness of slash, Wincest and RPF in general... written by one of my favorite authors. It totally shocked me. I mean, it's one thing to say that you don't read/write slash, it's another thing to state that people writing/reading slash are doing a wrong, bad thing...

So yeah, said author did achieve one thing with her rant - I will never go back to her LJ and she definitely lost me as her reader. I will be deleting all the bookmarks in my delicious account leading to her LJ and I will never rec her fics anywhere again. I know that she doesn't care because I'm one of those evil people who read/write slash but it makes me feel better. I will in no way support a homophobe.

Oh, CBS is now airing Psych Sunday night. Final ratings for the last two weeks: April 6th 3.98 mil., April 13th 4.24 mil. Ouch. It's a good thing that it's a USA's series and not CBS' X(

Yes, that's better John. Gear up and do something. Don't make your mother do all the work. Even though it leaves you all shaky, you need to learn how to take control and make your own decisions. I like this character development.

One thing irked me though - Sarah complaining about how John can't drive stick. Girl, do you LET your son drive at all in the first place? If you don't allow him to practice, HOW should he learn? *shakes head*

And 'boty Brian Bloom! Oh my, he's still so handsome! And his eyes, his eyes! So cool :)

I love how she quote 250 friends when she's only friended 37, so she only gets 37 entries on her flist, and she's only a friend of 197. Um, YOU'RE OFF BY ABOUT 53 PEOPLE, WTF.

Okay, I just went back to reread both entries to try and formulate some thoughts, and... she'd either defriended or been defriended by five people since I last read. Either that or I got the count wrong, which I don't think I did.

In terms of what she's arguing about, I can sit on the fence because honestly? Incest squicks me too. Just not Sam/Dean incest. It's something I can try to explain, but I'll probably get nowhere. What made me really oppose her, though, was that it was a really badly formulated, bitchy, self-important argument. I figure that the key to arguing is to take a step back, argue, but do it in a rational, well thought out, impersonal way. You can't expect me to take you seriously when you're single-handedly personally attacked every person who reads Wincest in this fandom.

But that's just me - I try not to state my opinions because I get that other people will have differing ones, and when I do, I'll at least try to even it up or reason it out.

LIVE IN PEACE, PEOPLE. Understand that fiction is fiction and that you're a narrow-minded, intolerant, opinionated fandom kill-joy is fact.

And you know what's sweet? If I had never read that post, and someone had recced her to me, I'd probably think she was an awesome person and/or writer.

I didn`t know whether to feel amused or gape at reading that because while I certainly respect everybody`s right to not like Slash/RPS/Wincest - hell, a couple years ago you couldn`t pay me to read this stuff - deeming the people who DO like it EVIL and yourself the one lone paragon of virtue is crossing several lines. I mean EVIL? So what, am I on a level with murderers and child molesters now?

To turn it around the "this should be underground" and "we need to put these people away basically" is exactly the kind of ideology that in history lead to oppression of minority and ghetto-building, mass murder etc. Which I guess is not EVIL? Sorry but no.

well I didn't read the entry (I probalby will in a second) but I don't like wincest - it's not the slash part - it's the incest. I won't read VC Andrews either - same thing incest squicks me. But a good number of of my f'list are wincesters and my feelings on is has always been live and let live.

As long as people don't attack me for writting het - with OFCs at that (and yeah - I have been attacked for that in the past. and yeah thats a HUGE reason I don't write SPN fan fiction) I'm happy.

Yes, but you practice the "live and let live" motto, "no hard feelings" etc. And that's perfectly fine because, heck, we can't like everybody the same stuff. But for someone who knows zip about me to basically call me a pervert just because of the stuff that I like to read... *shakes head*

Yeah i stoped being part of the wincest debate the millionth time I was called a homophobe (something that would shock all of my freinds - since many of them are gay)

I think the hard feelings in this debate go way to deep for discussion and so I aviod them at all costs. It's silly. I'm not a homophobe and you aren't a pervert.

I will say that a lot of het writters feel like they are being pushed out of the fandom though - I know a writer who's gen stuff always gets picked up by the newsletter and her het stuff - well it's not picked up anywhere near as often. And (I think this is what inspired the post) any number of wincest stoies seem to get posted in the spn_het com.

But again I just blow it off, well unless me or one of my freinds are attacked - then you'll see stuff posted in my L/J.

I skipped reading the "Evilness of Slash" post initially because I really don't care what she thinks, but I have now gone back and read it so that I can actually know what I'm talking about when I say that that was probably not the smartest thing to do. I can give her credit for standing up for what she believes in. But outright bashing more than half of this fandom? Or, even worse, labelling all of us under some category based on people acting stupid at cons?

IMO, It's a fairly big jump in logic for her to say that because there are people who write or read Wincest, those people must be ok with RL incest. I think she's citing the same logic as "The Matrix is responsible for all school shootings ever," which does not convince me. At first glance it seems like a well-thought out post, but after really reading it? Not so much.

Tolerance, people. Live and let live. Someone should remind her that if she doesn't like slash, she does have the option of not reading it. I know it's kind of hard to avoid (esp in icons, headers, etc) in this fandom, but really.

Exactly. If she just said that she didn't like slash, that would be perfectly fine. Why not? I don't like to read het fanfics *shrugs* But she bascially called every other person in this fandom a pervert. For Christ's sake, she doesn't know anything about us! She judges us based on what we read and that's wrong in so many ways that it's not even funny.

One of the things that I've noticed over the last day, is that gen writers are being lumped together with this chick. Um, that's not right, either. I will read slash of many kinds, but I'm mostly gen. I think there's one story, possibly two, that are non-gen, and I don't act like her.

Yeah, that's nonsense to stick everyone in one sack with her. I mean, 99% of the fics that I wrote in the SPN fandom was gen too. And I love to read gen. Some of my most favorite fics are among the gen ones...
