Exactly my sentiment. What I loved about the friendship between John and Rodney was that they were actual friends, as in hanging out together, doing geeky stuff together, drinking beer together - despite being a soldier and a scientist. For example, I loved The Game where we found out that they had been playing this game secretly for two whole years! That's why I was so miffed when the writers tried to tell us that ~Carson~ was Rodney's best friend - despite ~showing~ us that Rodney hung out with John. Or that Rodney was oh so in love with Jennifer, but ~showing~ us that Rodney, reduced to a small child, remembered only John (The Shrine), worried only about John despite Jennifer being in danger, too (The Prodigal). The whole "showing" vs. "telling" irked me totally. It felt like the writers were bipolar or something.
