I love this NCIS:LA behind-the-scene vid! I love how the actors playing the LA team goof around, that they want this show to be about characters, not about the cases, just like NCIS is more of a character show than a "real" procedural, IMHO.
Also, becoming a part of the NCIS fandom put me in a novel position - well, novel for me, that is. The fandom seems to be full of Ziva!haters... And I love Ziva. Everyone who knows me has figured out already that I'm very hard to please where female characters are concerned - I usually see them either as arrogant bitches or unlikable whiners. But Ziva kicks some major ass - even after all the poor decisions she made lately! So it's really weird for me to be in the small "pro-Ziva camp" there X)

Date: 2009-05-23 12:27 am (UTC)I ask because I think that part of the trouble I had with her was due to the fact that I knew the show before her.
Don't misunderstand, I actually do like Ziva, but I think her entrance was problematic.
She was kind of brought in as a female Gibbs. The things that made Gibbs Gibbs were given to her bigger and better. She was a worse driver, she was more experienced than Tony and McGee, she was more skilled, she was harder. And she had this "special" bond with Gibbs that kind of made her closer to him than those who had been with him for years. I understand the logic of where these traits came from, but I think it was frustrating for fans. It kind of defeats the purpose of giving a character like Gibbs these traits if you're just going to give them to the next person that comes along. Part of the purpose of an ensemble show is to avoid overlap, because they are each going to represent a niche character for the environment.

Date: 2009-05-23 08:24 am (UTC)I didn't like the way Ziva was introduced. In the first couple of episodes the writers went over the top to make her as un-Caitlin-like as possible but when they toned it down finally, I started to like her a lot. I don't mind that she shares some quirks with Gibbs - McGee is a computer geek just like Abby *shrugs*
The end result is that I prefer Ziva to Caitlin. Caitlin seemed too... fragile. Ziva is more of an athletic character so I actually believe that she can out-fight, out-gun, out-run men.
