You know, I love team-centric movies/shows/books/etc. - but they are so hard to find! I mean, in the TV format, there are my dear and lost SGA and SG-1, then there's NCIS and that's mostly it. In those series, you can feel them being a family: the Xmas episode on NCIS or Sateda on SGA! In other series, it's mostly two people investigating or the team-ness, the whole "the team is a family", is completely missing (Without a Trace, anyone?). But there still are team!shows.
With books on the other hand, it's something completely different *sigh* You can dig and dig and dig and you mostly come up with romances or lonely PIs or something similar. That's why I totally fell under the spell of Stargate tie-in novels - the team is there! But try and find an original book with a similar premise and you bomb.
But! I might try either Mel Odom's "NCIS series" (it has nothing to do with the show!) or Preston and Child's "Pendergast series". Or maybe Wen Spencer's new scifi series? I did love her "Ukiah Oregon" series - awesome characters, awesome team! - and "A Brother's Price", so...
Dear flist, do you know of any good team-centric, "the team is my family" sort of books? I tried asking around but with no luck whatsoever. Puh :(

Date: 2009-01-21 03:28 am (UTC)he writes the best team, really, his characters are great, and they snark and fight and trick each other and it's all very sweet and human
the stories are good but he has one plot and he writes it over and over again
a good place to start would be the elenium because it's a smaller team than the belgariad, and he goes out and uses the team again in the sequels, but rather than say like in SGA where they have one small adventure they have lots of little adventures having one big one
the elenium is
The Diamond Throne
The Ruby knight
The Sapphire rose
if you want to start with the more traditional belgariad
pawn of prophecy
queen of sorcery
magician's sometihng or other (it's been a while)
castle of wizardry and
and
enchanter's end game
I prefer the holy knights but that might just be me

Date: 2009-01-21 03:48 am (UTC)Me, I'm getting my team-as-family kick from anime and manga right now. They're so good with that. ♥ One Piece has it in spades, though One Piece is special. Gintama has places where they say it right out loud! In between a LOT of crack. Yeah. But still! Saying it out loud! "Think of me as your family," and "We're here because there's nowhere else we'd rather be than with you" and. It's socute. One of my favorite anime/manga families are Ban and Ginji from GetBackers - though they're more married than anything else. Living in their little car, being happy dorks together.
I could go on, but since these aren't exactly books, I think I'll shut up now. *g*
