Cody was sitting on the upholstered bench on the deck, a half-empty bottle of beer dangling from his fingers. The sun was rising, it was too early for such beverage but he was absolutely in no mood to heed appearances. He still couldn't believe what he had seen down there, under the deck... in Murray's room.

Huffing, Cody rubbed his eye with the heel of his free hand, then took another deep gulp of beer but he couldn't erase the picture from his mind. Nick sleeping on his stomach and... Murray sprawled all over him, both naked and sweaty and looking very, very satisfied, fulfilled. Cody just didn't get it. He couldn't. When had it happened? How? And why didn't they tell him? Why did nobody tell him?

"Because, with all due respect, Cody, it's none of your business," said the quiet voice from the doorway leading downstairs.

Cody raised his head so fast that he almost got whiplash. He didn't even realize that he had said it out loud.

Murray was standing there in his boxer shorts and Nick's oversize t-shirt. For once, he wasn't fidgeting or shuffling, he was standing there, calm and collected, watching Cody quietly.

"What?" Cody finally managed to say.

Sighing deeply, Murray leaned against the door frame, crossing his arms over his chest. "Cody, you must have known that Nick has been waiting for you to... I don't know... do something, say something for years now. You must have known," Murray repeated to accentuate his words.

Cody would have liked to say that he hadn’t known, that he wasn't aware of Nick's feelings but he couldn't. He was so used to pretending that they were just friends that it had become second nature, really.

"Instead, you kept pining after one girl after another. And now that you turned to Joanna... He finally gave up," Murray finished quietly.

"And you stepped in," Cody said, a silent snarl in his voice. He didn't even recognize himself. He never wanted to hurt Nick, on the other hand he also didn't reciprocate Nick's feelings and he thought... he thought that he would be happy once Nick shifted his attention to someone else, but...

Murray nodded, pushing his glasses up his nose. "Yes, I did. Nick is... Nick is a warm-hearted, generous man and to be perfectly honest, I think that you're an idiot for not taking what he offered to you. I won't make a similar mistake though," he added, his voice firm. "And I'm asking you right here and now - don't suddenly change your mind, don't ruin it for us. We are happy, content. And you have Joanna."

Did he? Have Joanna? Did he actually want Joanna? Could he see himself going out with her regularly? Settling down with her? Why when he thought about a home, did he see Nick? Why when he thought of a bed and sex, he now again saw Nick's sweat-slicked body and flushed cheeks, saw Nick laying sprawled out just like he was in Murray's room? In Murray's bed?

Cody swallowed, not able to look Murray in the eyes. Suddenly, he felt so fucked up, so terribly, awfully, irreparably fucked up.

Clearing his throat, Cody whispered. "When did it...? I mean, when did you...?"

"Just recently. We weren't hiding it from you. We thought that you would genuinely not care. You never cared before." Murray shrugged.

Cody nodded numbly. He really didn't know what to say. Did he care? And what was more important - did he mind? About his partners being together? Being homosexual? Technically, he had known the latter for years now, that Nick was bi, but he had no idea about Murray. Though he had noticed from the very beginning, how wonderfully those two clicked. But he would have never suspected...

Murray sighed again. "Look, Cody. We are not asking you for your blessing. It's up to you to deal with me and Nick as a couple, with us being gay or bisexual or whatever." He waved his hand. "With that, neither of us can help you. You have to deal with it on your own and make peace with it on your own. But don't expect us to break up or hide our feelings for each other just so that you won't feel offended or uncomfortable. We deserve better than to hide as if we were doing something wrong. Because we aren't, Cody." Murray looked at his friend firmly. "We are not."

Still not knowing what to say or how to sum up or explain his tumultuous feelings, Cody only nodded numbly again.

"Okay," Murray said quietly and from his tone it was obvious that he expected something else from Cody, something more than a simple nod, but Cody had nothing else to give, not at the moment. "Okay, I will leave you to your... whatever," Murray waved his hand again, "and go and catch some more sleep. You should take a nap too. You look exhausted, Cody," Murray added gently, then turned around and disappeared under the deck.

Cody watched the yawning doorway for a long time, the forgotten beer bottle still dangling from his fingers. "Fuck..."

Ooh, interesting. I love Murray's dialogue here. And thinking of Nick, all sprawled out and sweaty, is quite nice.

Thank you and you're welcome! :) Usually when I write, I have only these glimpses, short scenes in my head, that's why I'm so bad at writing anything longer XP

Cody's reaction to the whole thing is so good. He's retreating, trying to keep everything at bay. So Cody.

"Cody, you must have known that Nick has been waiting for you to... I don't know... do something, say something for years now."
Indeed.

Squee! You're writing again! *squeebounce*

Squounce - I love that XD

I'm so happy that you liked it! Cody did behave like a dick sometimes on the show.

This is really lovely! Thank you so much for writing it and posting it.

I'd really love to see Murray and Nick actually being together in addition to what Cody walked in on, but I can leave that to my happy imagination. At least for now... :-)

Thank you for your praise :) And I'm so bad at writing sex scenes that I avoid them at all costs XD
