SAG strike, SGU's banter

katikatI'm glad that "Hollywood Heavyweights Speak Out Against SAG Strike Vote". I didn't support the writers' strike - look at where it got so many shows and the TV in general - and I won't support the actors' strike either. I don't support strikes period. It's one group of people refusing to work without any regards to other people losing their jobs because of them. It's taking a whole industry hostage. It's wrong. If they want to achieve something, they should negotiate, not threaten. This strike could mean the end of many, many shows and in this time of economic crisis, it could bring down whole companies - not the big studios, but the small ones that have nothing to do with the negotiations but that are still dependent on the film industry. This isn't just about the 100 thousands SAG members! So yeah, no support for any sort of strike in this LJ.
From what I hear, on SGU, Dr. Rush and Col. Young should have an adversary relationship? So basically Jack vs. Daniel and John vs. Rodney sort of thing? The civilian vs. the military guy? On the one hand, I'm really happy about it. On the other hand, it is like beating a dead horse to a stinky pulp. Sure, SG-1's and SGA's banters were different: Jack vs. Daniel was more violence vs. non-violence thingy whereas the relationship between John and Rodney was more about Rodney not wanting to work for the military - he didn't mind building bombs, especially for John. But I wonder if there even is a new twist they could introduce to make another subtle difference.
I'm now curious who they will choose for Col. Young. Because the basic idea of bickering between two main characters isn't enough. There has to be chemistry. Jack and Daniel were great, but let's face it, nobody could beat John and Rodney when they went at it, the others could barely get a word sideways. It's all about chemistry. If it's not there, what could be otherwise seen as an acerbic but friendly banter could quickly turn into an ugly fight. So yeah, we will see...
