Riptide finale, oh wow!
Dec. 15th, 2008 07:13 pm322, Echoes: Oh wow, what a way to end a series. After the crapiness of S3 - sorry, but I really didn't like most of the episodes - the show went back to its roots and gave us a real and touching case story. And the healthy helping of h/c didn't hurt either, of course!
You know, as a slasher, for the first time I really saw and believed the Nick/Murray pairing. Maybe it's because in the last couple of episodes, they kept pushing the Cody/Joanna pairing so much, but Nick and Murray always had this deep and loving relationship, something that I just didn't see between Cody and Murray. Maybe it was because usually when it came down to emotional stuff, when Murray needed to talk, it was Nick who went to him, who took care of him. And in this episode, the slashy possibilities were enormous. I loved the touching gestures between Nick and Murray, when Nick gripped Murray's thigh under the tree, when Nick sat down next to Murray on the bed and patted his head, then rubbed his back... I really liked it.
And it was also fun to see "Directed by Perry King" XD
And now, I'm done, the show has been watched. Wow, it's really strange to be finished with this series. I have been watching it on and off since March. I really liked it, the close relationship between the three guys, even without my slashy goggles on. On the other hand, with the direction the show obviously was about to take - Cody/Joanna? Really? - I'm a bit glad that it was canceled before that could happen - just take a look at what the producers did to SGA *sigh* But I will still miss it: Nick, Cody and Murray; Roboz and the Mimi; the Riptide...

Date: 2008-12-15 07:03 pm (UTC)I don't remember. Just for some reason as a kid I really loved the Riptide & Ebbtide. It was like their big boat had its own little boat on the side. *g*

Date: 2008-12-15 08:24 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if my sigh is a sad sigh or not, and whether it's for Murray and the guys, or for the fact that it's the last episode, but either way... wow. I'm glad to see that you were moved by it as well.

Date: 2008-12-16 08:49 am (UTC)Who do you usually ship with Murray? Nick or Cody? Or do you like threesomes? ;)
And what freeze-frame? I had it downloaded in German only and they cut the episodes from 47 minutes to 43, so the freeze-frame wasn't there :(

Date: 2008-12-16 11:16 am (UTC)I never imagined saying anything like this before I found out about slash, but I really love threesomes. :: grins :: Funny thing, I really only like threesomes when they're Nick/Cody/Murray, though. Other fandoms just don't do it for me like these guys.
For anybody reading this who has NOT seen the last episode yet, don't read past this sentence...

After Murray and Nick talk at the end (and Cody just stands there in the doorway, what is up with that?), Nick rubs his back and gets up and leaves with Cody (I think he says something about 'we'll wait for you' or something) and Murray spends a moment looking at the gun in the sock drawer between the bed. And then he reaches out his hand and slides the drawer closed. The screen freezes on the shot of his hand resting on the closed drawer.
There've been a few fics written about the aftermath of that episode, some very specific on 'whether Murray can pick up a gun again' and some that just touch on it as something in their past. The best of them, IMHO, is a Mag7/RT crossover (slash, established relationship, OT3) by
