* Yay, USA Network renewed Psych and Burn Notice for their fourth and third season respectively!

* And sheesus on a pogo stick, SPN's fans are complaining and bashing and booing again. Come on, this is getting pretty old. I think I will stay in my little corner of LJ and not venture anywhere near a review post of this episode X(

Yay! USA pleases me greatly when it comes to their shows, they know how to keep their shows good. :)

...I'm resisting temptation to go and snoop at SPN because I just know it's gonna piss me off but at the same time there's that need to know what now?

God SPN, stop being such a crappy fandom.

The renewal news made me so happy, too! *bounces*

And I will satisfy your need to know: it's "the writers are so sexist and misogynist too, Dean is an asshole, Sam is raping Ruby's meatsuit" tune all over again. I have yet to encounter a bitchier fandom! *rolls eyes*

*bounce* Also for some reason I keep on thinking you don't watch burn notice, why is that?

...Thank you, you saved me so much heartache and anger and grinding of teeth. I don't even know why I keep on wanting to hear their opinions when I know I'm not going to agree with most of them. That's a big part of the reason I don't have the comms on my flist anymore. :(

It really is the bitchiest one I've come across yet. I mean I don't ever subscribe to letting the fanbase dictate your enjoyment of a show but this is the closest one that's ever come to putting me off a show.

Yeah, I don't watch Burn Notice *ducks flying dishware* The main character didn't really grip me...

same time there's that need to know what now?

I think fans should be allowed to have differing opinions. If some folk just want to look at the sparkly, I think that's perfectly acceptable, but I think the other half of the coin should also be allowed to explore their views. I'm among the group who thought Dean's fears got the better of him and he was being a jerk/asshole this past episode.

Difference of opinion is one thing, everybody is entitled to have one, but I'm quite tired of this fandom dissecting every frickin' thing and turning it into a huge issue. Dean called Ruby a bith ergo he's a sexist, misogynist asshole. Travis was not African American ergo the execs are racist. Travis wanted to kill the pregnant woman ergo the writers hate on women.

If it would be about the Sam vs. Dean argument, I could understand that because Dean did behave like a jerk - he's scared out of his mind that everything he sacrificed for his brother won't be enough in the end and because he's not a touchy-feely guy, he reacts by being an asshole.

That's perfectly fine. It's called character development. But when the fans start going about how the writers are ruining the show and start pulling out the feminist guns and whatnot, I'm outta there. It's a TV show, not a manifesto! Sheesh.

Travis was not African American ergo the execs are racist.

Wait *what*? Seriously? I mean why is that even an issue? It's not like they haven't had black people on the show before! *mind boggles*

From: [identity profile] katikat.livejournal.com
But the role *could* have been played by an African American actor and it wasn't ergo the execs are racists. I hate illogical jumps like that *rolls eyes*

Okay, I knew the mysogyny wank was coming once I heard the word "bitch" but why the Travis thing baffles me. Because if he had been African American, surely the claims would have been that it was racist because he was evil and died?

I mostly had a problem with the brothers, not really digging them in this one. And by the newest theory Dean abused Sam physically for years which is why Sam was keeping the secets - he was afraid to make his abuser mad and get battered. Oh joy.

okay completely filling up kat's inbox but...

And by the newest theory Dean abused Sam physically for years which is why Sam was keeping the secets - he was afraid to make his abuser mad and get battered.

O.o... We're talking about Dean Winchester here, the man who feels guilty if Sam gets a papercut right?

...What show are these people watching?
From: [identity profile] astri13.livejournal.com
But that's the "beauty" of abusers, they're the only ones who to get to hurt the person in question - and only because they're doing it out of love.

And you just know that right after Dean gave Sam those cereals in the Shtriga episode, he beat him into a pulp for asking. That is why Sam is so cowed and unassertive.

/sarcasm

From: [identity profile] bendtothesun.livejournal.com
Oh yes, you can see it in the way Sam is so wary around Dean and afraid to contradict him in any fashion. And like how there's no way now for him to fight back.

And the reason bitchface works so well in cowing Dean is because Dean feels so guilty about the abuse (even if most abusers lay the blame of the abuse on the victim and feel no remorse about it).

And that's the thing - he could have been played by a by a PoC but he wasn't which means that the execs are racist. On the other hand, if he was played by a PoC, the execs would have been racist for killing him. A lose-lose situation.

And you are serious about the abuser!Dean thing? Like for real? O.o Sheesh, isn't the fandom bonkers enough?

Yup, serious. It's a theory started by people, prefacing their posts with "I've worked long years with abused children..." *headdesk*

Though I also love tidbits like "Dean forces Sam to lie to him". Like with a gun? Because I totally get lying to people when you think they're gonna react badly to the truth - it's not like I don't do that sometimes but they don't force me.

I definitely fall into the more sparkly section of the fandom but at the same time I believe the fandom has a tendency to take issues and blow them up. Like kat said mostly.

I definitely agree that Dean was being an asshole this last episode, I fully admit to wanting to slap them both upside the head. Which is fine, they're characters and this is part of the story arc and character development for both of them.

What I'm tired of is the constant accusations of racism and misogyny etc that the fans keep on leveling against the show. For one it's a show, okay a character might not do something you agree upon but it's part of his character. And then somebody dies who happens to be in a minority (or the big one a women) and obviously the writers hate on whoever they killed, despite the fact that SPN is an equal-opportunity on the kill victims.

Probably the biggest issue here is my version of feminism vs. some fans versions of feminism. I'm not so quick to jump on the hating bandwagon when something bad happens to a women. :(

(And I hope this didn't come off as yelling or attacking or anything because that completely wasn't the intention, just trying to show what irritates me so much)

There's more wank?

Sheesh. Why can't people just enjoy the story for what it is - are they deliberately looking for the slightest excuse to pitch fits?

*is sad*

Aww, thanks. See, I could completely understand both Dean and Sam's positions in this episode - Sam was forced onto the defensive, and Dean is starting to unravel again, season-two style. The result isn't as pleasant to watch as brotherly harmony, but it makes sense given their situation. Deliberately picking holes in any show purely for the sake of finding reasons to complain just drives me mad. There has to be balance - acknowledge both the good and the bad! After all, it isn't the job of the show to represent any kind of utopia, but to tell the story of these characters and the harsh world in which they live.

Phew. Okay, I'm offloaded now. :-)

*sucks on lollipop*

*glee* You see the show pretty much in the same way I see it, brother harmony is fun but it's not the goal of the show. The goal of the show is to be *interesting*. Brother's getting along is fun but not dramafull enough. Plus any episode Sam uses his bitchface is a good episode to me.

But yeah, everything you said. I just feel like they're not allowed to fight or be individuals because the fans seem to forget that they're full developed characters and won't always be funny or happy or even glad to see the other day after day.

Absolutely! What do these people want? The Brady Bunch? A show where everything is tied up in a neat little ribbon at the end and it's all sunshine and roses by the next episode? How boring would that be?

I'm just glad most of the bitchiness passes me by completely, and I only get to hear about it in passing.

Bottom line: this is a horror show. People of all races, genders and ages are going to die in horrible ways, including the leads. Anyone who isn't prepared to understand that should maybe go watch Gossip Girl.

Exactly my reaction - yay, Psych!

And yeah, I didn't even venture to the comms. I'm not suicidal! X( I don't know what's going on with the fandom these days. I don't need people to agree with me or be all positive all the time but people are literally looking for something they could wank about.

Great new about Psych and Burn Notice! And such early pick-ups to.

SPN's fans are complaining and bashing and booing again.

What are they complaining about now? That Jensen got 1.5 extra seconds of screen time in the last ep? That Jared is tall? Sheesh, can't they just agree to disagree and get over it?

According to a friend, someone came up with the theory that Dean was actually abusing Sam their whole childhood, that's why Sam never fights back when Dean hits him. Well, that's new *rolls eyes* Other than that, the usual sexist, misogynyst crap...

Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but there's constructive criticism and then there's clutching at straws and sometimes it's damn hard to tell who is doing what. No wonder I stay on the fringes of this fandom. The sheer amount of wank is enough to drive you barmy!

I used to like this TV show, really liked it. Each week I waited for a new ep with bated breath. I have my favourite characters and my OTPs and all. That was season 1. I didn't quite like the second season though. I hated the characters'development, I thought the plots were getting sillier and sillier. So did I stay on in the fandom and bitch about the show? No. I got out, I stayed out, and I did not rant about the show, hurting those who still love the show. Wasn't being a goody-two-shoes or anything, but I thought it a waste of time to stay in a fandom where I no longer agree with what's going on with the show per se.

So, those wankers, are they still fans of the show or do they stay for just the sake of wanking? *shakes head*

Just curious, are these people BNFs?

I loved S1, I liked S2, I hated S3 (I have a very peculiar taste in female characters and Bela was so not my thing!). But I don't get the wankers either. To have an opinion is one thing, to insist that it's the only tru-fact is something completely different.

And what's BNF?

Big Name Fandom. People who are well-known, either for good things or bad things. Thank goodness I didn't come across any wanks on my flist. Which comm(s) are they wanking in? Not that I want to read it, just curious.

*shakes head* Poor Dean! And I suppose that now the demon that Sam exorcised hinted strongly that Sam and Ruby are indeed doing the horizontal bop, the cries of 'rape' in Sam's direction are only going to get louder too.
