Harry Potter

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". I saw the movie first and it bored me to tears, but the book itself isn't bad at all. I still don't get what's all the hype about but it's cute and interesting and I love Hogwarts and Albus Dumbledore, it's a nice setting. Also, I like that Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't, for once, gorgeous/beautiful/hot. They are just normal kids that can, by chance, do magic.

Though I don't get why this book had to be renamed from "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in the US. From my standing point, it's a bit... ridiculous. I know that it's probably because the stone itself is called something else in the UK and the US but when someone doesn't know that, it can cause confusion...

And now, I picked up "Skin Game" by Max Allan Collins, a Dark Angel tie-in novel.

I suspect that the US publishers didn't think 'Philosopher' sounded cool and trendy enough, and switched it to 'Sorcerer' so that it would be immediately obvious that the book is about magic. Not trusting their readership to look closely enough at the blurb on the back to figure this out for themselves...

I enjoyed the Harry Potter books so much that I'm reading them all again. I'm currently on book 5. I think the books are much better than the movies.

I think that this series of books will never belong to my favorite stuff but it's rather well written :)
