Fannish once more

I just ordered manga for 45€ from the German Amazon *groans*
- Yoko Matushita's "Yami no Matsuei 3+4"
- Moka Azumi's "Romance 1"
- CLAMP's "xxxHolic 8"
- Hirotaka Kisaragi's "Brother x Brother 1+2"
See? See? How could I resist?
So, Sci-Fi will continue airing Stargate Atlantis' S5 in one row without a mid-season hiatus. In October, SGA will move back to its previous 9pm timeslot and anchor Amanda Tapping's new show Sanctuary.
Huh, I wonder what all these changes mean for the show. Never before did Sci-Fi air SGA in one long run. One half of the fandom thinks that they want to burn the season out as fast as possible because they want to cancel the series. The other half thinks that they do it to give Sanctuary a strong lead-in because they trust SGA's ratings. And TPTB don't give a straight answer to anything, as usually. The VP at Comic Con was all excited about SGA, Joe Mallozzi is now doom and gloom without saying anything outright. I really hate these mixed vibes... X(
ETA: Pardon me, but this made me giggle - taken from Joe Mallozzi's blog:
Question: "Joe, do the Wraith Queens have to touch someone to get them to submit or is it like my kids who play with their food.
Answer: Physical contact is not required for a Wraith Queen to wield her influence over a human mind.
Aha, so the Queens just like to grope Sheppard. Good to know *g*

Date: 2008-08-08 10:38 pm (UTC)But they did when they first aquired SG1, didn`t they? As well as other shows? I thought this insane long hiatus in between Season is a relatively new thing, and I can only imagine it is bad for ratings momentum.
I mean in today`s times the attention span of the average viewer is getting shorter and shorter. Even on non-cable networks you see what a 4-6 week break in the Season does to ratings. Perhaps Sci-Fi has simply come to the conclusion that this practice isn`t really workeable anymore and are slowly giving it up.

Date: 2008-08-10 08:00 am (UTC)Also, I hate that everybody treats SGA like an unwanted cousin, like a bridge between SG-1 and SGU. Before, everybody was talking about SG-1 and dissing SGA. Now, everybody is talking about SGU and dissing SGA. That annoys the heck out of me X(

Date: 2008-08-10 09:26 am (UTC)Odd. Because, quite honestly, SGA has quickly developed into the better show for me - even back when they were still running simultenaously.
And if they plan to launch a new SG - which they don`t know how it will perform - wouldn`t it make even more sense to hold onto SGA as a launching pad and boost both ratings to make a double feature night? Sequel shows running back to back often works quite well.
Granted, I`m not in the know about the Sci Fi channel or TPTB politics but I have been pretty confident that Atlantis will see 7 Seasons at least.
