Last night, I watched SG:A's ep Trinity. It hurts every frickin' time. No, no one dies but it's still one of the most painful episodes of this series. Why? Because of the misplaced faith Sheppard has in McKay in this episode. Rodney asks John to trust him and John does because it is Rodney. Sheppard goes against his better judgment, against the advice of the other scientists, against Elizabeth's wishes and decides to have faith in Rodney. And then Rodney is wrong and it breaks them both.
This episode feels like a punch every time I watch it. But it is also a very good ep. On SG-1, Sam Carter was never wrong. She was the ueber-scientist who got it right every time. On SG:A, people make mistakes because of their ego and arrogance - Sheppard did too, just like Carson. I think that the only person who feels infallible to me on this series is Weir and maybe because of that I don't really care much for her.
So yeah, it hurts a lot to watch this ep, to see the expression on John's face when he realizes that Rodney was wrong. Not even a very geeky Sheppard could lighten it up - although it was cute to see McKay floored by the fact that yes, John did understand his technobabble.
And I found an excellent coda to this episode:

tigs. Rodney asks Zelenka to take his place on Sheppard's team. Words: 3.000.

It`s nice to see writer not going by the soldiers=action heroes= dumb and strong stigma. O`Neill seemed to lose brain cells as SG1 went on and hello, just like Sheppard he had been a Pilot. Pilots need to have a good understanding of math and physics so academically dumb, not so much.
Which doesn`t mean you can`t make fun of them sometimes. Did you already watch the two-parter (Lost Boys and Hive)? There is such a cute scene in there with Sheppard and weapons.

They made John Mensa-smart on purpose because they wanted to make him different than O'Neill. They say that where O'Neill is a cynic, Sheppard is a skeptic because he does actually understand what the scientists talk about. But I love his lack of orientation when they are on the ground. That's quite cute XD
And nope, I have yet to see Lost Boys and The Hive. I'm about to watch the eps where Sheppard turns into a bug. I watch the eps with the commentaries and without them too, so it takes some time.
But I adore the scenes where John just floors Rodney with his brain. He just turns Rodney's world upside down every time because he's actually a smart soldier, go figure XD
And it's great that you watch SG:A too. It feels like nobody on my flist does, puh ;)

Maybe it`s because at the moment the show is on hiatus so noone posts about it even if they usually watch the show.
But oooh, I can`t wait till you get to "Michael". I adore this storyline even though I know a lot of people have grown sick with it but I thought the writers were really brave to go there.
