It's weird, but I feel like I'm starting to fall out of love with Supernatural. It's not just the show but all the things around put together.

The fandom is going nutty. When it's not gen vs. het vs. the "madness that's Wincest", it's Ruby vs. Bela or Sam vs. Dean or whatever. Kripke is doomed whether he listens to his fans or not. Katie Cassidy is a bad actress and Lauren Cohan walks on water or the other way around...

Passionate fangirls are one thing, this is crazy. Yes, I like gen and Wincest, yes, I can do without het, yes, I like Ruby and I hate Bela, yes, I love Dean a teeny weeny bit better than Sam. But the wankiness of this fandom is making me feel like I should be ashamed of myself for even considering Wincest, for being a jealous bitch because I don't like Bela etc. etc.

What's going on with people these days? I mean, we don't like the same things. Fine. Whatever. But why troll other people's LJs and comms with hateful comments? It feels to me like all the enjoyment, all the fun is being sucked out of the show.

Because of all the stuff that's going on in the fandom, I didn't even look forward to the new ep and that's why I was probably rather luke warm about Ghostfacers. I didn't hate it, I didn't like it either though *sigh* It left me all "Huh? And that's it? O.o" The awful, terrible ratings didn't help either, of course.

Maybe I just need to take a step back and gain a new perspective. Maybe I just got too involved in the fandom and totally forgot that it's "just" a TV show that one should enjoy. Who knows? But something definitely has to change for me because I quite dislike this disconnection from the fun that's Supernatural *sigh*

See, this is where we're different, I think, because I just don't give a damn about what others might think or feel like about SPN. The only person who would make me fall out of love with SPN is myself; and there's no way I'd let other fans influence me in any way. I like what I like, they hate what they hate, and the rest is just details *shrug*

I like to talk about series etc. with my friends and in comms and there is so much hate going on these days that it's just dampening my enthusiasm. All the hate makes me sad. Maybe if this ep of SPN totally floored me with its awesomeness, I would feel differently about it but it was rather lame in my opinion *sigh* I feel tired, like I just can't summon the energy to care properly :(

I have to say I prefer my way of looking at the whole thing ;-) I just ignore the wanks... like I said, there's no way I'd let anyone damper my love for a show. Actually, it's not even an effort, I just don't, is all.

Also, I never expected SPN to floor me with each and every single episode. So I didn't enjoy that episode, so what? I enjoyed pretty 98% of the whole show, a couple of episodes here and there that don't really floor me is nothing. Know what I mean?

Again, that's how I see the show and fandom in general. Obviously many people won't see it that way. Case in point. Sorry you're losing your enthusiasm.

There is this part of the fandom who ruins every good mood someone has and sometimes it's better to enjoy a show away from fandoms etc.
Negativism doesn't help anyone and attacks when someone disagrees. I think many people must grow up.

Well, I don't expect every ep to floor me either. But they finally got the ball rolling with eps 311 and 312 after the rather lame beginning of this season so I thought that they would keep it rolling *shrugs*

And my problem is that in this season, I really enjoyed only like 50% of eps - and I think you know why ;) In S1 and S2 it was many more.

It's for those exact reasons why I haven't dived as deeply into SPN as I have with all my other fandoms. I look around a t the comms and other places and sometimes it's just scary! And it's not just on LJ either. I dont think I would dare go near the message board on TWOP without armour plating and a whip. The fans that hang around there scare me half to death. And it's such a pity because it could be a really great fandom, it's just that some of the people involved make it so not fun for the rest of us.

And this would explain why I talk to some people about the show and whatnot, but I under no circumstances get really into the fandom. About 90% of it is too damn catty and thinks its their way or no way. And to me it just isn't worth fighting/arguing over.

Exactly. I mean, we all have the same goal - we want to keep the show on air as long as possible. Why do we have to be at each other's throats all the time?

It just makes me sad, you know? If not even avid fans of such a show can get along without biting each other's heads off...

The reason some people go stark raving mad and then misbehave is because SPN is all they think, eat, live and breathe. Someone should remind them that it's very important for their own sakes to have a life outside of a fandom as well you know? *shrugs*

I was probably rather luke warm about Ghostfacers. I didn't hate it, I didn't like it either though *sigh* It left me all "Huh? And that's it? O.o"

Oh God, same here! I thought it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. After the long hiatus was kind of hoping for something spectacular and all we got was a 2 second pretense of a self-deprecating joke on the writers strike. *rolls eyes*

Why bother with the fandom? Why let it destroy something you like? I live in a bubble. I talk to/comment to the people on my flist and other than that, honestly... bubble. I read your entry and went, What fandom wank? I'm that sheltered.

You wouldn't!!! *clings like a bug*

You're not allowed to leave the SPN fandom! *growly growls* Okay, so maybe you can fall a liiiittle out of love with it, but you're still not allowed to leave me it!

Surviving in this fandom is pretty much ignoring flames tossed in communities and forums, and instead, bringing your ideas to surface and by having a small discussion with sane people. The fandom is Behemoth in size, and there's just no way we're going to luck out and have everyone be somewhat civil in any discussions.

Maybe I just need to take a step back and gain a new perspective.

Agree 100%. It's easier if you're not in the heat of everything. And for me, I feel if I have other fandoms to take my attn, I feel less burdened by the crap in the SPN fandom.

I wanted to be positive and squeeful, so in order to do that, I knew I had to take a giant step backwards this season. And when you have seriously limited time for fandom due to STUFF, you gotta have fun your way.

Getting into the SGA fandom is 1000% a positive experience, and when I have more time, I will try to find another one. The more fandoms, the better :D Spread your joy. With other distractions, you'll forget the bullshit and concentrate on the SHINY aspects of fandoms ;)

Ghostfacers wasn't the strongest ep, but hey, we have next week :D It's my mantra, yo, keep the faith ♥

I used to be the same. My whole life centered around SPN. But then I decided that it wasn't all that healthy, especially considering that it's a bubble show that faces canceling every year. And so I branched out, went back to House and SG: Atlantis, I started to read books again...

Ghostfacers and The Magnificent Seven, I would rate them the same. As eps somewhere in the middle of a normal season, why not. They weren't bad. But as the first ep after a long hiatus and as a season premiere, they quite disappointed me :(

*clings to you too* I don't think that I'll leave this fandom as long as the series is on air. I must be a masochist XD

Some time ago, I started to feel that I was too involved in SPN, that's why I branched out. I went back to House and SG: Atlantis too and I found tons of amazing fics there. It also helps that all I visit in these fandoms are fic-finding comms and nothing more XD

I think that a part of the reason why I didn't enjoy this ep as much as I could was that I saw the ratings first and they totally crushed me. They were awful. I think that we are lucky that the show has already been renewed. It'll be probably better to just write off this season completely and look forward to the next one hoping that the ratings won't drop even more (like with Veronica Mars).

I almost did fall out of love with SPN earlier on in season 3. Even before season 3 started, mainly because of Ruby and Bela when we still didn't know what their characters were going to be like. I hated the first episode and didn't bother downloading until episode 9, when most of the fans start squeeing again.

But my love for the characters itself made me stay on, and I never stop loving the fanfics. I didn't really bother with the wanks. I figured that with a fandom this huge, you're bound to have lots and lots of different types of people, and when people are obsessed with something, they tend to be outspoken about things that they are passionate about. So yeah, I mostly ignore them.

:)

Hey, okay. So with House, how slashable is it? I'm not going to lie, I love the slashy aspect of a shiny new fandom. Call me perverse (okay, I admit it, I'm perverse), but is the OTP-ness there? Kinda like John/Rodney and Sam/Dean?

I am so hesitant 'cuz of the diseases and yeah, just the medical maladies. I've watched a few eps, but I'm wondering if I should watch something more 'normal', not scifi or horror. And if you say the fics are awesome for House, you know I'll take your word for it ♥

Yeah, I find myself farther and farther away from the fandom. It makes me sad. That's part of what I like about having you on my f'list I feel like, even though we are on different sides on a lot of the issues I feel like we can have *normal* conversations. I don't ever feel disrespected by you - and I hope you never feel disrespected by me. If you ever do - I am profoundly sorry.

This is why I stay very far away from fandom. I find I actually enjoy the show more when I do.:)

Personally, I think the wankiness is nuts. So what if we all like different aspects of the show? You love slash and Wincest; I'm a het girl, but I think we find common ground in gen. You like Ruby...I like Bela and Jo...we both still adore the boys, right? (((HUGS))) Can't we all just get along?

(And, hey, you still write kickass Chris gen fic. *Beams*)

Oh yes, House does have an awesome OTP - House/Wilson. Even Ausiello put Wilson in the "House's true love" poll - and Wilson is winning with 59% XD

Try this vid (http://youtube.com/watch?v=0p8Hr9dA_Ts) for some cute H/W moments.

I usually skip the medical stuff and go directly for the House and Wilson scenes XD

Yes, the first eps of the season were kind of lame, especially the first one. Then, after the Xmas hiatus, they got the ball rolling again. That's why it surprised me how not special the latest ep was.

I love Sam and Dean. This show was a dream come true since I adore stories about brothers. I will stick with the show until its very end - all because of them :) - but the humbuck all around it does make me kind of sad :(

It's the whole fandom as life vs fandom as a hobby. No matter how much I love the show - it's just a show. I'll be sad - but the world will go on.

How does it effect my life that you read wincest or hate bela. How does it effect your life that I read het (well right now I'm not reading fan fic becasue I'm working on an origanl story and am trying to focus on that) and well I'm still kinda Meh about bela (don't hate her don't love her)?

It's not like you don't rec gen fics and I like slash in ohter fandoms.

I'm just realy tired of it all. It seems like a lot of people are tired of it.

ext_2984: Dean reads Supernatural (Default)
From: [identity profile] jellicle.livejournal.com
I've been feeling pretty much detached of everything - not only Supernatural. I mean I really excited about the boys and everytime I learn something new about them. In Supernatural's case, I've been skipping all sorts of fans reaction to all sort of things, but I guess more than the fandom, what is putting my mood down show related in Dean's imminent doom. That's wierd, right? I think some comments Kripke did about Dean's deal and season 4 threw a bucket of cold water in me.

As fr the ratings, I have the impression that the lack of Sam and Dean were the main reason for such terrible numbers. It proves that they are what the viewers want to see, though. May even serve as an alert for season 4.

Date: 2008-04-27 07:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katikat.livejournal.com
I didn't read any of those spoilers or what will be in S4 so I have no idea, really. Do you maybe have a link where to find it?

And it's true, sometimes too much angst, can be too much, especially if the arc lasts a whole season :(

ext_2984: Dean reads Supernatural (Default)
From: [identity profile] jellicle.livejournal.com
Sorry, I don't have a link. It was one of my best friends who told me. I'm avoiding all Kripke interviews since the infamous "Dean is the real hero" from the LA Con.

What I know is that he implied that Dean might not get out of his deal. And Gramble implied that it took a while for John to leave hell. I don't remember if Kripke also implied that Dean might spend some time in hell, creating a extremely Dean-lite episode. That's why I hope the Ghostfacers experience would work as an alert for them.

ext_2984: Dean reads Supernatural (blue shirt Chris)
From: [identity profile] jellicle.livejournal.com
Hi! ♥ your icon! :) I thought - before watching SPN - that I would like Sam more because he was the little brother like Chris. But Dean is way more like Chris so you know how it all turned out.

Date: 2008-04-27 08:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katikat.livejournal.com
Oh, I stumbled across that one by mistake too. But on the other hand, if - and I don't know that for sure, it's just my speculation and not a spoiler - they end the season with Dean going to Hell, using that as a cliffhanger, Dean's time in Hell might happen during the hiatus between S3 and S4 and Sam might get him back in the first ep of S4, at the very end. The ep could show the ritual or whatever that Sam would use to get Dean out. And that would be quite interesting, to be honest.

ext_2984: Dean reads Supernatural (Default)
From: [identity profile] jellicle.livejournal.com
That would be a solution I wouldn't get *too* much pissed at :)

Have you noticed that we've spent every single last scene of season finale with the knowledge that Dean might not make it?

Season one finale: the Winchesters trapped inside the Impala after being hit by a monster truck driven by a demon.

Season two finale: both boys are standing, but we know Dean made a deal and will die after one year.

Season three finale: Dean being taken to hell? I wonder if he'll die or if his body will be taken 'downstairs'.

Date: 2008-04-27 08:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] katikat.livejournal.com
Thank you! ;) And yes, I would say that both Chris and Dean are "nurturers" - oh my, I so love to hear people call Dean that *beams*

From: [identity profile] katikat.livejournal.com
I would say that his whole body would be taken downstairs. Otherwise, it would be way too morbid with Sam dragging Dean's body around for who knows how long XD

Poor Dean. If you take it like that, the season finales I mean, Dean might not be the "hero" of the story, but he's definitely the H in h/c XD

It is definitely hard to have a normal convo with people in the fandom, myself included because when it comes to these boys, only capslocky thoughts seem to emerge -_-
But the wanking is just something I've recently discovered, since even though I've been with the show from the start, I only got into lj fandom 2 months ago. So it's definitely been an eye opener how fanatical and judgmental some ppl can be. I hope you don't them take the fun out of fandom because we need more sane ppl like youuuu :D
