New shows I want to check out in fall...
Apr. 6th, 2008 03:01 pmThere are some shows that I would like to check out this fall. Some of them definitely, others depending on their casts or their final look - first description might be misleading. Some are just pilot orders, to others the networks already committed themselves...
NBC:
definitely:
- Knight Rider. Sequel to the 1980s series.
- My Own Worst Enemy: Henry Spivey (Christian Slater) is a middle-class suburban dad whose alter ego Edward Albright is a super spy - I like Slater and this sounds a bit dramedish, like Chuck, though I might be mistaken.
maybe:
- Blue Blood: Based on the 2004 bestselling autobiography by New York police officer Ed Conlon, the show is about a rookie NYPD officer who is a Harvard grad who decides to return to the family beat: law enforcement - I think this one will depend on the actors and on whether there will be more crime solving or they'll heavily lean toward the "woe is me" part of the show.
- Philanthropist: A hedonistic maverick with billions goes out of his way to help those in need.
ABC:
definitely:
- Castle: A horror novelist is consulting for the NYPD homicide department.
- Section 8: Everyday people with exceptional neurological abilities recruited to work for a secret branch of a government agency - this sounds like Heroes but I hope that there'll be more cop stuff and less family problems.
maybe:
- The Unusuals: A dramedy set at a New York police precinct - yes, me and cop shows XD
CBS:
definitely:
- The Mentalist: A mentalist (Simon Baker) uses his skills of observation to solve crimes as an independent detective working with the police - sounds like a serious version of Psych.
maybe:
- Eleventh Hour: A special science adviser to the government saves people from the worst abuses of science - more comedy than drama? Who knows.
- Harper's Island: A horror story unfolds over the course of a season as a group of friends meet on an island off the Seattle coast for a destination wedding.
CW: nothing
Fox:
definitely:
- Dollhouse: A group of men and women who are imprinted with different personalities for different assignments - I'm curious about this show but I hope that it won't be just another version of La Femme Nikita with a twist :(
maybe:
- Fringe: Young, tough FBI agent is forced to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena and work with a XX scientist and his son - a sorta funny cop show with some family stuff thrown into it?
- Inseparable: A modern-day Jekyll and Hyde tale about a partially paralyzed forensic psychiatrist (Toby Stephens) with a split personality whose alter ego is a charismatic criminal - sounds interesting...
HBO:
definitely:
- True Blood: Based on the novel series "Southern Vampire" by Charlaine Harris. The series follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic barmaid who finds comfort in the company of vampires since they have no brainwave activity for her to read.
You know, sometimes its hard to say why you do/don't like a show, why you do/don't feel drawn to watch it... But mostly, I'll rather watch a paranormal series or a cop show than a serialized soap opera.

Date: 2008-05-19 08:57 am (UTC)There's a couple of shows that did interest me on principle, except I don't like the actors playing the main characters so, being the shallow fangirl that I am sometimes, I don't think I'll check the series out.
And then there's a couple of shows I missed when I checked the tv grid, I think.
