Did it ever happen to you that you read someone else's fic search and thought "What an awesome idea, I need to read that!"? And when the fic was found, you went and read it and after a paragraph or two, you had this look on your face - O.o? Where and we're, your and you're are two completely different things! Full-stops were invented for a reason! *shudders* I mean, the plot might be totally awesome but the way it's written is important too!

And Supernatural fic recs of course!
GEN:
"Like Father, Like Son" by [livejournal.com profile] ella_menno. John, Sam and Dean switch bodies :D Words: 5.000+

"Bloodlines" by MuffyMorrigan. When Dean gets a call from an old friend he and Sam head to Arizona to investigate a possible haunting. Along the way Sam begins to suspect his brother might not have told him everything he needs to know. Not the best story but I love the OFC! Words: 10.000+

"Run run run" by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter. Jim Murphy and Bobby deal with an ethical problem. Dark, refers to underage non-con! Words: 1.000+

WINCEST:
"Our life will never end" by [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter. Sam is evil. But he still loves Dean. Very dark even though it doesn't seem so at the beginning. Words: -1.000

I sometimes think the grammar doesn't really matter, so long as it has an excellent plot. And, the you're your? I'm pretty sure that's from a specific part of the world that they write it that way. Just like "realize" and "realise."

Thanks for the reccs!

I don't mind a mistake here or there but when the author makes the same mistake, be it grammar or spelling, over and over again... It's different when it's an LJ entry or a fic search or whatever but when it's a fic/book... Ouch!

More times than I can count! Oh, how I long for a red pen sometimes when reading. I'm not sure what's worse: when both story and writing are dire and you can just click away with a shudder, or when there's a really creative story idea buried in there somewhere, begging for release from the tortured spelling and grammar and overwrought depictions!

Exactly. Some fic ideas are so good but they are murdered by the grammar/spelling mistakes the author makes *head/desk*

And so many people just don't seem to understand that spelling counts, kids! And so does grammar. It gets brushed off as unimportant - 'as long as the story is good, who cares what the writing is like?' - but if words are mispelt or the grammar is wonky and readers have to spend more time deciphering the writing than appreciating the idea...they just won't bother. I know I don't. The back button is our friend!

The your-you're and there-they're-their thing always bugs me, because no, they really, really aren't interchangeable, in any English-speaking society. Might sound the same, but each means something completely different, and if you use the wrong one it changes the meaning of your sentence completely. In fact, it takes away whatever meaning your sentence might have had.

*G* I could rant about badly written fic all night! LOL

Thanks for all the recs, btw. I've usually read most of them (the gen, anyway, since I don't do slash) but sometimes there's something really meaty I hadn't seen yet.

I read 'Run Run Run' earlier today and thought it was simply awesome. 'Our Life Will Never End' is kinda shocking. I totally didn't expect that!

but the way it's written is important too!

Totally agree with you. I've come across quite a number of fics where the premise is great but the writing is off. Such a pity. And I think that's where a good beta comes in!

And it's really not that hard to find a beta. I mean, it's not like you have to pay for it ;P

Yes! The "Our Life..." fic started so happy and then it took a 180° turn that left me quite like this: O.o
