LiveJournal doesn't allow its users to create new Basic accounts anymore. Without mentioning it in their news because obviously, it doesn't concern their old users. Right. I have a paid account and I have no intention to create another LJ - I have an IJ as a back-up - but still. It's the camouflaging and tip-toeing and hiding that's pissing me off! Why can't they state, simply and clearly, that Basic accounts are not profitable enough anymore? Why all the hush-hush?

Obviously, I need one of those wanky LJ pencil icons because they really do crazy things more and more often *shakes head*

Reading the paranormal anthology "On the Prowl", featuring authors like Patricia Briggs or Eileen Wilks, I realized one thing - I hate submissive, fragile heroines!

Like in Briggs' "Alpha and Omega". I had high hopes for this short story because it starts a new series about Charles and Anna but... Charles is awesome. Anna's a whimpering, fragile thing that Charles needs to protect. OMG that's so overrated. Kick ass, girl, fight and yell and when someone smacks you, hit them twice as hard!

I so hate simpering frail flowers! Spine-less jelly-fish, really X(

There's always something that LJ does that makes me unhappy. I didn't even think of this like that, though.

I always dread when they'll start "improving" things once again. The fact that people get used to the changes they make doesn't mean that the changes were for the better X(

Does this new policy affect us with paid account/

Nope. But you can't switch your account to Basic anymore and you can't create a new Basic account anymore either. For new users though, it'll be either see ads or pay. I do understand why they are doing it, I just hate the fact that they tried to sneak it past their old users without announcing it!

Thanks. It sucks that some things never reallyyy change in LJ

Exactly! And they promised to do things in a more transparent way when they were sold to the Russians. Sheesh, they sound like our government, really X(

But in a way, maybe it would help reduce the number of sock-puppets around?

I have a paid account, so when my paid time is up, does that mean I must pay to continue with my LJ?

Nope. But if you don't pay, you will be dropped into the Plus account category and not into the Basic account one, which means ads and some plus features instead of no ads and basic features. But if you pay, nothing will change.

I don't mind them getting rid of the Basic account feature. But I intensely dislike the fact that they didn't bother to announce it at all, hiding it under the "and other changes" line in their announcement. I think that such a huge change, getting rid of one whole type of account, should have been announced clearly. This way it seems like they are trying to sneak it under the old users' noses. And they look like idiots now because they were caught red-handed.

Someone linked this post (http://news.livejournal.com/106731.html?thread=68484587&style=mine) and from what I understand, we could use the Basic Account if we created our LJ before March 12 this year?

"Basic Account is an option available to accounts which were created before March 12, 2008. No account created after this date can be turned into a Basic Account."

Yes, but only if you have it set as Basic now. I don't think that you can actually go back to Basic from Paid anymore.

Some things will never change with LJ. I just wish they were upfront and honest.

I just really don't get. People will find out anyway, so why not just outright tell them?

I don't know if you've been following this thread over in [livejournal.com profile] news,
http://news.livejournal.com/106909.html, but apparently LJ has also been censoring the most popular interests list. They have removed yaoi, bisexuality, fanfiction, porn, bondage, depression and a few others from the list. You can still search for them but those interests no longer appear on the list. I wonder what other surprises they have in store for us. I heard rumors awhile ago that LJ wanted to do away completely with fanfic and fandom in general. Maybe there is some truth to it.

This is getting ridiculous. Since they can't delete these interests without facing an uproar for discrimation, they just omit them in their official charts. Way to go, really. I don't understand how they can even think that nobody will notice!

I don't think they care. It will be interesting to see if they address anything that was raised in that thread. They'll probably just ignore it and hope it goes away.
