So, the flagging thing? So NOT happy about it. This is so easy to abuse. Basically, when someone doesn't like you, they just can flag all your entries as explicit and you are done because obviously, there is no way to object to it nor is there any punishment set for people who flag other people's stuff inappropriately.

Users who choose to flag another person's entry, journal, or community will be given five options: "Explicit Adult Content," "Offensive Content," "Hate Speech," "Illegal Activity," or "Nude Images of Minors." If the user flags the content as "Explicit Adult" or "Offensive Content," the content will automatically go into a moderation queue. If and when content has been flagged by several users, it will be sent to the Abuse Prevention Team to determine if an adult content setting is necessary.

So yeah, someone flags your LJ and it'll go into a moderated state until you change your settings. WTF! This is censorship pure! It's nobody's business but mine what I write in my own LJ that I PAY FOR!

My issue with this, is that it's so easy for someone to use this as a weapon during some kind of wank war. Can you just picture that? "Oh, well, this is offensive. Hee hee, well to me, anyway."

Exactly! As one of the people who responded to the entry in lj-biz said: "What would happen to me if I flagged this entry as offensive because it offends me?" Hehe, that would be kind of funny if people flagged the lj-biz post XD Would serve them right. And it would show them how non-sensical it it! Sheesh :(

If someone flags something for no reason, i.e., they're just being immature and hating on you, then LJ is not going to delete anything.

Will your entire LJ go into moderated settings? I didn't read the page LJ has explaining all this stuff, but from the paragraph you posted it sounds to me like that entry will go into a moderation queue for them to look at. Or something. I don't know. XD I just think this'll be the same as when people first starting freaking out about the strikethrough. It'll all blow over. They're not taking away any rights, they're just trying to stop the 13 year-olds from reading our porn... and most of them already know to change their birthday year to something that will make them look over 18.

They can flag your whole LJ. There is a new setting in the viewing options that you can set for adult or whatever. When someone flags your entry nobody outside the LJ will be able to see it not just LJ users under 18. It would be as if you f-locked the entry. So bye bye fics for outsiders.

It said nothing will happen unless multiple people flag something. Which I guess they could if a hater has enough minions! Hmm, I'm just confused now. I don't think this will work at all, but the idea that they want to stop minors from looking at porn (which is THE JOB OF THE PARENTS, God) is okay with me. Still... yeah, I don't think this will work very well.

Hehe, there was one really cool mom there who said that she didn't mind her teenage kids reading stuff LJ labels as inappropriate and she asked what she should do now? Should she tell her kids to lie about their age to keep reading? That was really cool! It's the parents' job not the LJ's to censor kids' reading material.

I wouldn't mind it if you could only flag your own stuff. But now, someone else will decide what's appropriate and what's not in your own LJ? That's what bothers me :(

On the one hand I'm glad they're at least trying to do something to protect adult content; on the other hand I don't trust LJ Abuse as far as I can throw them (and sometimes I wish I could throw them). And just where is the updated policies document that was supposed to make an appearance? Seems like they're on the same old track of adding new policies without updating the TOS/Policies and procedures.

I would be delighted if it was a voluntary setting only. If you could flag only your content, I would congratulate them! Heck, I immediately set my LJ as "adult", for 14-year-olds and up. But when other people can flag your content... that smells too much like censorship.
