I tried, I really did
Oct. 8th, 2007 05:53 pmSo, I tried to write something today. Anything. I have so many ideas. At least one for Chuck and there is this Heroes one in which Matt and Mohinder are in bed together, having hot monkey sex... (come one, these two are so slashy in that domestic kind of way!). But my muse just won't cooperate, the beast! *pouts*
And I have a question or two...
To fanfic readers: When you leave a fic review, what do you write? A simple "Great fic!" or do you list the reasons why you liked the fic?
To fanfic authors: Whe you respond to a review, what do you write? A simple "Thank you!" or do you try to make the response more personal?

Date: 2007-10-08 06:59 pm (UTC)Sometimes I'll just say that the story was great and I'll thank the write for sharing with us. At others, if the story really moved me or had an impact on me somehow I'll tell them and might detail a little bit. Sometimes I'll also wax poetry about how hot a fic is; it really just depends on what kind of impact the story had on me.
As for the kind of response I give to those who send me feedback, it usually is in direct relation with the kind of feedback I received; if the feedback is detailed, I'll try to answer accordingly. If there's a point made I'll try to answer that too. If it's a 'thank you' I'll say thank them for taking the time to comment but won't necessarily make it more personal. Though I usually add a 'i'm thrilled you enjoyed my story' because I always am :-)

Date: 2007-10-08 08:02 pm (UTC)The reason I review so rarely (which I try to fight with), is that I don't like saying just "great fic" and moving on. I try to list what I liked, or didn't like, whenever possible. Same goes for replying. Of course, there's only so much you can say to a "great fic", but if someone took their time to write out a longer review (even if it's only a sentence or two) I try to respond in kind.

Date: 2007-10-08 10:44 pm (UTC)As far as responding, I'll usually only put "Thank you! I'm glad you liked it" unless it's a comment of more than a single thought.

Date: 2007-10-09 09:42 pm (UTC)I usually spaz about why I liked it. I don't see the point in just leaving yet another 'Great fic' comment. I don't post a comment unless I have something to say that mean something to the author. That or I just really need to squee. lol.
And when I used to post fic I tried to make each comment a little personal. I like to get to know people that way. But sometimes you only have time for a 'Thanks for reading! :D'. I kinda feel like if they took the time to comment you can take the time to say something back.

Date: 2007-10-10 04:27 am (UTC)As an author, it depends on what it commented in the first place. If it's just "Great fic!" I normally just respond with a "Thank you!" If they give me more personal ones, I respond more personally. I try to address everything they've written to me. ^^
