The whole LJ situation? I've moved on - from pissed to sad. A good portion of the fic links I've clicked on in various rec comms don't work anymore because the authors already f-locked their LJ... I feel like I'm running into walls face first now...

Unfortunately for you, you're in a fandom where incest is pretty popular. *assumes the fics are SPN related*

I kind of do not understand what is the difference between F-locked entries and open entries for LJ users. You only have to add the user to your F-list and you can read. Only thing it does is, that is forces you to open a LJ account which might be exactly what LJ admins want.

Since the person does not have to add you to friends and you still can read his/her F-locked entries, is that really a problem? Only the F-list will rise and there will be more filters needed in the F-page. And of course there is the thing about the fics are being harder to find which makes communities more useful as long as they are open for new users.

To be honest, I am a big fan of community {here should be the name} where is most of the stuff I read and some of the things there are VERY good (and some not of course). But it is kind of scary because everything there is open (not locked for members only) and since Dean is being hurt and raped and i killed in most of the fics {everyone can now guess what community it is} I am wondering if it is such a good thing it is so open. Shame there is not an age lock possible on LJ entries even the F-locked. But of course, you choose what to read, it is your responsibility.

To fiction: there are some parts of USA where being homosexual is still a crime. Does that mean all people and communities who have tag gay or slash should be stopped because it goes against the law? Does writing RPS fics count as slander and harassment? (btw Kati THANK YOU for the links, I can not wait for next continuation of the last rps you sent me).

Err, they do have to add you to let you read their f-locked LJ. You can't get in if they don't. Sure, when a comm is locked, all you need to do is friend it - like yaoi_daily. But when it's a personal LJ, they have to friend you back. This way, they can control who reads their fics. And they can filter it even further so that some people can read only their fics and not their personal entries too :(

Yeah, I'm wondering about the gay thing too. I left a comment in the news comm, asking them to make an official statement about what's going on...

Oh, thank you, at least one mistake eradicated :D
This seems to make a bigger use of LJ-cut since I was wondering why for posting fiction to comms use LJ-cut and not only link to your own journal.
It would be really easier if there would be a lock that would allow allow view only to LJ user above 18 :( Isn't there something like that?

Well, you can decide who exactly can read your stories and who not. So, if they have the year of their birth in the profile, you can filter the minors out. Unfortunately most people - me included - hide it. And there is no tool that would allow you to filter out by year :(

Oh shit. I didn't even think of that. And I think you're right about the having to friend back to be able to read stuff.. which sucks :(
If this is what they want us to do - f-lock all our entries as a measure to control underage consumption, why don't they just say so? Why delete our comms? It's not making sense. *shakes head*
