I just don't get it *sigh*
May. 21st, 2007 10:40 pmAccording to this post, there are fans (male and female) who complain rather loud about Supernatural being too emotional this season...
I just don't get it. When the writers let the characters evolve, let them react to obstacles in a very human way, fans complain. When the writers try to keep the characters the same, let them behave like machos, fans complain...
One fan even went so far to call the show "cheesy". I just don't get WHY?! The writers let the character go through the whole range of human emotions, from rage to despair. Why can there be rage unleashed and nobody has anything against it, but despair must be restrained? The character can go and shoot someone five times point blank and fans cheer but when the character has to shoot his girlfriend and he cries, the fans go "Boooooo!"
Why does this show have to be just another mindless flick? Why can't it get deeper? Because it doesn't appeal to a larger public? Flash news, it's doesn't appeal to the majority anyway and it didn't before it turned "overly *emo*" as they call it.
One of the fans stated that her friend said that if his brother hugged him like that, he would say "You are so gay" to him... Why is it so bad for two men to hug after the narrowest of misses? They are brothers for pete's sake!
Maybe it's the American mentality or something other that the European won't ever understand... After all, we also consider for example violence something far worse than simple sex...

This statement is apparently from a young man who has never suffered a devestating loss in his life nor has he lived life.
Why do people think that American women have such a love affair with European men or chick flicks as Dean would call them. We seek out what we can't find in our day to day lives.

I must say that for me in the Central Europe, it's really hard to understand some parts of the American mentality. For example here, even PG-13 movies have nudity or sex in them. But once there is violence, it's NC-17 all the way. Or at least 15 and up. We don't take sex so seriously here :D
