Yuri

Lately, I've been really getting into yuri anime and relationships. It's really strange because before that, I was only into yaoi or het. But then I've started watching the anime Simoun where the girl-on-girl kissing and yuri relationships are rather pronounced. And there was this cute scene in Tsuyokiss where the president of the student council got all predatory on her secretary - that one was really cute! 8D Before that, the only yuri series I watched was Kannadzuki no Miko which was more than a bit boring (though the brotherly relationship there was kinda interesting XP). Only the Zero couple in Loveless raised my interest but that was it. Oh, and I mustn't forget Mai HiME and Shizuru and Natsuki. Wow, that one was rather intense!

So, now I'm curious - are there any interesting action/sci-fi/mystery anime out there that would focus on a yuri relationship?

I am still searching for intersting yuri anime, but it is not my piece of cake. I am trying to find something in yuri, but there is nothing appealing for me in it. Yes I like Utena anime and manga but not because it has yuri hints but because of its story. But in yaoi I simply love even PWP if they are drawn in my taste. The lack of story is not problem. Thank you for soem tips on yuir series. I will try it.

I like yuri relationships where one is the dominant, the other the submissive one. That's really cool! Too bad that there aren't a lot of anime like that. Usually, it's just your two girls pining after each other when they are pining at all XD

It's neither of your mentioned genres but it has lots of yuri subtext: "Maria sama ga miteru"

Very late with my response, sorry X( I've watched the first episode of Maria and found the show rather slow. But since I'm in the yuri mood, maybe I should give it another try? :)
