Obviously, I read Russian books now too :) What books? My friend recommended Sergei Lukyanenko's "Night Watch" to me. And it is really good too.

It's set in Moscow in present time and tells the story of Anton, a member of the Night Watch. The Night Watch is formed by men and women who supervise the forces of Darkness (vampires, magicians etc.) for the forces of Light during the night. On the other hand, the forces of Darkness inspect the doings of the other side during the day via the Day Watch.

The idea is really original. The two forces don't fight each other, they simply watch what the other side is doing. They agreed on this solution after they almost destroyed the world fighting each other. I'm surprised that it's so good. I've never expected much from Russian books, to be honest. But this one changed my mind :)

Go and buy it when the English translation is out. It's worth it!

I saw the movie when it came here to the States, and have every intention of buying it on DVD and the book too when it comes out in English. I loved that movie so very much.

I haven't seen the movie but I heard that the book is completely different. I don't know if worse or better, but different. I hope that you won't be disappointed :)

well, it was the basic concept of the different groups (daywatch vs nightwatch etc)that I was in love with, so pretty much anything they do with the idea will be interesting to me.

I've seen the movie when it was out last year and loved it. Funny thing, I've watched it just last night with my cousin. I've been thinking about reading the books ever since I discovered that world but never got round to do it. I think I might just do that now, though :-)

I was lucky since this book has been out here in the Czech edition for over a year now. And it's really good. What I like most is that the main hero is male. Most of the US authors try to sound very modern and so they make the main heros female. I don't dislike female charas but the main one must be a man! *pouts*

I only know the film, so I don't know how different it is from the original story but I know I really loved Anton. I would so love to see the second opus - I need to investigate, actually *nods*
