Wen Spencer
Mar. 17th, 2006 04:51 pmWen Spencer is now officially my favorite author.
I finished reading her "A Brother's Price" book. It's excellent. She turnes the old cliché found in historical romances - you know the woman in distress - upside down and makes the male characters the weaker gender and in need of protection. It's something totally new and surprising. What a refreshing book. Too bad that it's a one-shot :(
But then I immediately picked up another book of hers - "Alien Taste". Wow! It's the first book in the "Ukiah Oregon Series", a sci-fi set in our present time. Ukiah Oregon is a young man who was raised by a pack of wolves and then found by a woman who became one of his moms (yup, his "moms" are lesbian). Now, at the approximate age of 21 he is working with his twice as old friend Max as a private detective. They specialize in the tracking of missing people. Ukiah possess namely heightened senses (of the Sentinel sort) and a photographic memory. But then, while solving the case of a crazy killer he finds out that he is not quite human when the biker gang called the Pack takes an interest in him...
Lets just say that even though I haven't finished reading this book, I immediately ordered the other three in this series. And Spencer seems to be an anime fan too because she talks about "rabid Otaku" and in her other books the monsters are oni and tengu... :D Just a bonus ;P
Oh, does anybody know what's pronounciation of "Ukiah" is? The hero was named after the small town in Oregon where he was found.
