Right-click. Delete. Yes.
Right-click. Delete. Yes…
With each file hitting the trash bin, Blair felt more and more cracks appear in the foundation of his life.
His life’s work dumped and trampled. A fraud.
Right-click. Delete. Yes.
Was Jim’s friendship, Jim’s life really worth it? He examined his feelings detachedly and even though some small selfish part of him cried out in protest, he realized that he had done the right thing.
With the folders empty, he moved the mouse pointer over the trash bin. Right-click…
With the pointer hovering over the 'recycle' sign, he leaned back in the sofa and let his eyes roam around the loft. He had always defined himself by his work. If all he had done was for nothing… then who was he?
Suddenly, he found himself staring at the drawer where Jim always kept his reserve gun locked and he realized what things he was contemplating…
Had he really sunk that far?
Frantically, he reached out for the cordless phone lying on the coffee table, desperate for a distraction from the dark clouds of depression that seemed to settle over him. In his haste he misdialed twice before he managed to punch in the right sequence of numbers.
The phone rang once, twice, three times before the person on the other end picked up and murmured a sleepy, muffled "hello".
Hearing the familiar voice he hadn’t heard for months, Blair relaxed immediately, sinking back into the sofa and resting his head on the afghan covered pillows. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before forcing himself to respond to the increasingly annoyed inquires.
"Hey, Charlie, it’s Blair," he said in a low voice that cracked at the end and turned into a half sob. Pressing the heel of his palm into his left eye, he continued, breaking the stunned silence that settled over his cousin. "Charlie, I… I did something really, really stupid…"
The End

Date: 2005-12-16 07:33 am (UTC)I friended you a few days ago when I found you via a Harukanaru fanfiction. It was quite a nice surprise seeing a TS ficlet by you. ^_^
From Numb3ers I've only seen the first episode. I liked it but at the moment I'm watching so many series I had to cut down. -_- TS is an old love of mine. First online slash fandom and first oversea convention in Vancouver. *g*
