Eh. My least favorite Bourne movie yet. What I've always loved about the Bourne films was how everything was connected but in a very intriguing way, Treadstone, Blackbriar, everything, through people and their agenda... but this movie made it all personal and the whole plot felt completely convoluted, just slapped on. Instead of focusing on Pamela Landy and the consequences of her trial, they wiped it all clean - Landy and her fate weren't even mentioned! - and came up with yet another off-shoot program. Eh.
Also, what they did with Nicky? And then Heather Lee and her agenda? I love Alicia Vikander but she was so bland in this movie. The bad guys felt generic, not scary. Vincent Cassel's Asset didn't feel at all dangerous, nothing like Bourne #2's Kirill. And I think it was a mistake that they cast Tommy Lee Jones for that particular role, he felt to me like a big marshmallow, not at all menacing.
And I think that was what bothered me the most - the movie didn't feel menacing. Everything in it was inevitable, Nicky's fate included. There were no surprises, at no point was I at the edge of my seat. It felt old and tired. I think it's time to put this franchise to rest.
