MMM: #11 Master and Commander

Yes, believe it or not, this was the first time that I actually saw the movie in its entirety. Go me. I have owned it on DVD for years and zilch until now. So there! The best thing about the movie is, of course, the incredible friendship between Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin. What I loved about it was, that even though they were so different, they were best friends, very dear friends, and they respected the hell out of each other. Stephen, who seemed to exist in a perpetual state of exasperation, could say anything to Jack without offending him, he was actually the only one who could do so - which reminded me of the friendship between Kirk and Bones, to be honest - and Jack, despite not understanding Stephen's obsession with weird birds and even weirder bugs, tried to oblige him as much as possible. It was great.
Also, what fascinated me was the code of honor between enemies, like the French and the British here. Yes, they did their best to kill each other, but once the flag was down, they showed each other respect. Too bad today's military seems to have forgotten this code...
