I went to see this movie despite my dislike of Orson Scott Card, who's a major jackass. I simply realized that my boycotting the movie because of what's based on would not hurt Card, he already got paid. It would hurt every person who worked his ass off to make the film as good as possible. And that's rather useless and counterproductive, to be honest.

And thus the movie was watched. And - OMG, PEOPLE IT'S AMAZING! I read reviews that complained about the shallowness of it, that said it lacked the book's depth, but personally, I thought it was great the way it was. The perfect balance of character development and action and the CGI was breathtaking!

I've always loved books or movies about great tacticians, about people who outsmart their enemies... )

I would give it 9/10! One of the best movies of the year, hands down. Light years ahead of my biggest disappointment of 2013 so far, Iron Man 3.

This movie is really funny. The monsters and Dracula and the part about the hotel were the funniest, though. Dracula's relationship with Mavis was sweet but that storyline and Mavis' "zing" with Johnny were the weakest parts, IMHO. I preferred watching Dracula make a nutjob out of himself while running interference for Johnny, protecting his secret. That was simply hilarious!

And as crazy as it sounds, I found the humans' acceptance of the monsters more unbelievable than the existence of Dracula. How weird is that? And what exactly does that say about humanity? Or about my cynical view of it? :-/
