"The IDIC Epidemic" by Jean Lorrah

Rating: ♣ ♣ ♣

If you are looking for an action driven book, then this one's not for you. And if you are looking for a Star Trek tie-in that would heavily feature the Enterprise crew, then this one's not for you either. Yes, it takes place in the ST:TOS universe, but Kirk, Spock, McCoy and all the others are just secondary characters here, the main part is mostly focused on ST:TOS' guest stars - like Corrigan, Sorel or Sarek and Amanda - or on original characters. It's basically an intergalactic take on racism, the segregation or cooperation of species and the pros and cons of cross-breeding. Quite an interesting read from a philosophical standpoint.

This season aired... 3 years ago now? But since it's still not out on DVD - HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE?! - I'll try not to be too spoilery when talking about the show...

I just love, LOVE the scenes where the cops use Toby's gift. It's so cool. And when people start wondering what his deal is. Like with Michelle and Dev - when Michelle asked Dev to check Toby's background and he found out in how many cases Toby helped Charlie and that Charlie died protecting him... the way it boggled their mind. That was so awesome. I just adore these scenes.

And one of my favorite things about the show is Toby's friendship with Oz. Oz is basically Robin to Toby's Batman, LOL! Oz is so excited about Toby's gift, it's really sweet.

I actually like the changed dynamic. I found the arc about Toby's mother in S1 really, really boring. I prefer this show as a procedural, not a heavy drama show. I like that Toby's being drawn deeper and deeper into police work now. That he's now officially listed as an informant. Great!
