Disney's Aladdin

Well, that was... boring. I'm a big fan of animated movies. I adored How To Train Your Dragon and Tangled, I liked Arthur Christmas very much and even enjoyed Gnomeo & Juliet. But this? Eh. Just... eh. I think it's because I didn't like the main characters and especially Jasmine. Oh, look at me! I'm gorgeous, rich, pampered and spoiled, I don't have to work and I have no obligations whatsoever, all I do is sit in the garden the whole day long and moan about how terrible my life is. WOE IS FRICKIN' ME! Really? REALLY?! All she did was whine about how she had to marry. But what did she actually do with her life? Did she think about her subjects for even one FRICKIN' minute? Was she bothered by not being able to help and serve her people? No. She ran away because she was being forced to marry - a guy she could actually choose on her own! She ran away because poor people have it so much better! And did she actually learn anything from her experience? A lesson in humility maybe? The importance of her people? Did she learn that there were people starving out there why she wailed about how trapped she was? No! She remained the same pampered, spoiled brat! Un-frickin'-believable!
And Aladdin. You know, the guy who would rather steal than work honestly while he moaned about how trapped he was in his life! The guy who wanted to achieve his goal through deception, who kept lying and breaking promises because he was too much of a coward to face the music. But he at least learned his lesson in the end, even though it was almost too little too late. He had to see everything he held close threatened to do the right thing. But at least he did it.
The only likable character was the Genie. What an awesome guy. So funny! My heart broke for him when Aladdin refused to release him. And even after that, he was still willing to give up everything to ensure Aladdin's happiness. Now that's a wonderful character!
So yeah, disappointed.
