I was rather surprised that a good half of the main characters from the first book was relegated to supporting parts in this installment. I'm talking about March and the Doc. They were basically replaced by Vel, Jael and Hit in Jax's crew. Not something I expected to see. The new characters were very likable but I missed Jax's interaction with March and the Doc, I missed the closeness that used to be between them...
Jax seemed a bit too... whiny in this part, more often than not her thoughts ran in circles, going back to "March, oh, March" or "I'm so fragile" on more than a regular basis. I hope this will stop in the next book. I like Jax and the way she deals with stuff thrown her way, so when she becomes whiny, it grates.
I love Jax's developing friendship with Vel and Jael and I hope we get to know them better in the following books, that the author doesn't off them like Loras (that still irks me, what a lame way to get rid of an intriguing character). I also liked the twist with the Syndicate and the fight with the Morgut, that was awesome.
All in all, quite an enjoyable book. But I need to let some time pass before I pick up book #3.
