What's in store for Kili?
Jan. 15th, 2013 01:05 pm
Richard Armitage talked about Kili a bit and about what's in store for the youngest dwarf:
In The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, we meet Thorin Oakenshield’s nephew Kili, a naive, rash, yet brave young dwarf played by Irish actor Aidan Turner. Kili has his own story to tell over the course of the three films. ( Vague spoilers for The Desolation of Smaug ) and, in the final film, Kili’s character is developed further as Richard Armitage (who plays Thorin Oakenshield) explains:
“In the third film [Thorin and Kili] had some really kind of sensitive, intimate moments. [Kili]'s such a heroic character in the first movie and his journey is fascinating and he goes through all sorts of traumas, so it was a real privilege to play that with [Aidan] and he really gave himself up to it.”

I didn't know that Kili was Thorin's nephew. Interesting. I wonder if that's Tolkien's bit or if Peter Jackson added that connection. In any case, I can't wait for this. Kili's such a wonderful, sweet character *happy sigh*
The Two Towers, part 1
Jan. 15th, 2013 10:57 pmYou know, compared to FotR, this was a bit... boring and slow. At least this part, the first hour and 40 min., it's mostly the characters walking/running and then walking/running some more. I mean, I know it's needed and it sets up the battle at Helm's Deep, still. And with the added scenes, it feels even longer.
I guess it suffers the usual pains of being the second movie in a trilogy. Luckily, The Desolation of Smaug won't have this problem what with Mirkwood, the spiders, Thranduil, the Lake Town, the Lonely Mountain, Smaug, then Lake Town again and the slaying of the dragon. The second movie will be action-packed from the very beginning till the end.
The added scenes, what I really liked was Théoden's son's funeral and Éowyn's singing. And then the scene in the stables, in which Aragorn calmed down the spooked horse using Elvish tongue. That was beautiful.
And Gimli. He's hilarious, so, so funny. I love how he complains about every little thing, all the time. He's one grumpy dwarf, let me tell you. Though I loved how Legolas jumped to his defense when Éomer threatened to cut Gimli's head off. Yup, they're starting to become friends.
Oh, speaking about Éomer and Legolas - these two? No buddies. It was dislike at first sight. But it's a bit funny, to see these two standing next to each other. They are of almost the same height, yet where Legolas is all slight and slim, Éomer is a real buff and all muscle. Nice.
Part 2 tomorrow!

LotR recs?
Jan. 15th, 2013 11:55 pmQuestion, folks. Do you have any LotR fic recs? Fics focusing on Legolas or Legolas/Gimli? A few years back, there had been heaps of them. But now, most links lead to nowhere. It's actually hard to find a fic worth reading in this fandom which is terrible, awful, depressing for a fangirl. I remember there used to be a site, it was all green, that held a lot of Legolas/Gimli fics, series even. Now? Nothing. Zip. Nada. Nic. Very depressing. Help? I can't be the only Legolas fan desperate for fics!
