"Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress #4)" by Jeaniene Frost

4 stars out of 5

Fast paced with many unexpected twists and turns. My favorite aspect of this story must've been the friendship between Cat and Vlad. I hope the author doesn't screw it up with UST in the future, their relationship is special because it's not sexual. I love it. And I loved Fabian, a great addition!

So why "only" 4 stars? Because of two things. First, the whole "Everybody wants Cat" spiel that gets rehearsed in every book. Second, because the spat between Cat and Bones turned out to be just that, a spat, Bones leaving in a huff because Cat did something stupid again only to crawl back to her a few days later. No lasting consequences there.

"Your Head Caught in a Waking Dream" by addandsubtract, read by rhea314 | Charles/Erik | AU | In which Charles is sent to a mental institution as a child and by the time Raven breaks him out, he's irreparably damaged. | 2hr. 31min.

You’ve done enough, he says to them. One of them tries to cover his ears, but Charles holds him motionless, in thrall. Stop now, just stop. Stop.

He feels them go out, one and a time, like broken light bulbs, as they struggle to draw breath against a force that they don’t understand. He hears them plead, he feels their fear, and one by one they die.

What a heartbreaking fic :'( Right now, it's available only in m4b because Megaupload's collapse ate the mp3 version.

Listened to Abu Dhabi, Boston, Cremona and Douz - and LOL'd myself silly. What an awesome comedy!

Bits and pieces like...

Carolyn: All right, biggles, you divert if something goes very, very seriously wrong, and I'm talking, "Oh, dear, surely we had two wings when we started wrong."

Or

Martin: But why? Why? I mean, why? Why?
Douglas: Four excellent questions.

Or

Douglas: Do you want me to drive for a bit, darling?
Martin: No thanks, dear. You know I get carsick in the passenger seat.

Benedict Cumberbatch is fantastic as Martin! And I just adore the banter between Martin and Douglas. Like when they played Simon Says.

You know, in Sherlock, I like the character of John Watson better than Sherlock's, he's more approachable and I've always had a soft spot for the much abused, long suffering Doctor Watson. But when it comes to actors, I'm much more interested in Benedict Cumberbatch's work. Strange...

Off to read Cabin Pressure fics!
