Foreign languages
Nov. 24th, 2008 05:50 pmI'm still reading Sabine C. Bauer's "Mirror, Mirror", a SGA tie-in novel, and I have to repeat again, that writers shouldn't use languages that they don't understand.
One of the main characters of this novel is the Czech physicist, Radek Zelenka. And Bauer lets him speak in Czech. Some of his phrases are completely nonsensical. I don't know where she took them from but it would have been better if she consulted them with a native speaker or at least let a native speaker check the final product. For me as a Czech, it simply jars *winces*
