Hugh Laurie as a pirate?

katikatIt looks like Hugh Laurie might come back to the US TV sooner than expected. According to various sources, he's in talks to play the pirate Blackbeard in NBC's Crossbones from the creators of Luther:
If Hugh Laurie's in, I'm in! Though it being on NBC, I don't have much faith in its success, call me a pessimist. On the other hand, if it's a mini-series only, if the story is told and finished in 10 episodes, I couldn't care less about the ratings, as long as they air it all. So yeah, crossing my fingers and toes and hoping this works out!
Laurie would star as famed pirate Blackbeard in the 10-episode drama based on Colin Woodard's The Republic of Pirates book about the golden age piracy in the 1700s.
NBC's series takes place in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the pirate Edward Teach -- aka Blackbeard -- reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder's paradise, the island is unlike any other and presents a mounting threat to international commerce. To combat the threat, skilled undercover assassin Tom Lowe is sent to take down Blackbeard, but the closer he gets, the more enthralled in the community he becomes.
