And what? A certain person posted this on the TSStoryfinders ML:

| A story with less unacknowledged racism than in "Walking with Dark
| Angels" would also be fabulous. Stewart refers to Naomi as a "jewess"
| and Blair has "the beautiful hue of skin, that rich honey gold only
| mulattoes seemed able to achieve."
|
| Who knew the hue of my skin was trademarked?

WHAT THE FUCK!?!

And my immediate response on-list?

| Lurker here, but this one just tickled me wrong! Are you calling CD Stewart a racist? Openly? Here
| in this list?
|
| I don't see anything racistic in it. What? That mulattoes have a wonderful hue of skin? I think it's
| a compliment. If she had said "that rich honey gold only the Italians seemed able to achieve" then
| it would okay?
|
| And jewess? Would you like to read the correct dictionnary meaning?
|
| jewess: a woman of Hebrew birth, as Eunice, the mother of Timothy (Acts 16:1; 2 Tim.1:5), and
| Drusilla (Acts 24:24), wife of Felix, and daughter of Herod Agrippa I.
|
| Or are you calling the www.dictionnary.com site racistic too?
|
| I live in a land that went through horrible, horrible persecutions in the past. Racism, fascism,
| communism. Pick what you want, we went through it. So I really HATE! it when people are saying such
| things where they are NOT appropriate!
|
| Nitpicking, aren't we?

As someone of a similar background (in this case probably even identical), I most definitely agree with you on this. Putting such emphasis on "racism" as the person did, is to me a form of unacknowledged racism.

Having lived my whole life an hour's drive away from Auschwitz, holocaust being the most prominent part of my country's culture in the 20th century, I feel that picking on every word outlining racial difference is most improper, especially since those differences are important - in a good way.

*coughs* Sorry for that. I got riled easily.
