Are they for real...?

katikatDigitalspy.co.uk revealed - link (beware of SPOILERS for S5) - that the execs and writers of Merlin plan to focus on movies, hopefully a trilogy, once S5 is done. Well, I prefer a series but as Sherlock proved, sometimes less is more, so not a big shock there. The real shock though, was this:
Are they, like, for REAL?! They are actually considering scraping everything that happened and going back to zero and starting over again instead of giving us further adventures of this bunch? What the...?!
ETA: What WOULD be a great project? If they rebooted the series as a What-If trilogy. One movie = what if Arthur knew about Merlin's magic from the get-go? Second movie = what if Gwen and Lancelot became a couple and she never married Arthur? Third movie = what if Merlin went bad and he and Morgana took on Camelot together? Or something like that. THAT would be awesome. Something like "choose your own adventure."
