Went to see Snow White & the Huntsman today...

And I really liked it. Not as much as The Avengers, but it was quite a good fairy tale. The visuals were amazing and the battles/fights too! But what had the biggest impact on me? The characters of Snow and Huntsman. Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth were incredibly sweet together. It wasn't your usual in-your-face UST, the characters were both quite damaged and grief stricken but that was why they understood each other so well.

So, if you somehow missed my point: I SHIP SNOW AND HUNTSMAN LIKE WHOA! I really hope that fanfic writers pick this up and run with it. And that they don't turn Snow into a weepy girl, she kicked ass and fought for herself and her kingdom and she did NOT need a man to hold her hand while doing so! If fanfic writers turn her into a damsel in distress, we will have words!

I loved that they didn't make Snow and William a couple. That they actually did not gloss over the different ways in which these two grew up. Yes, they loved each other as kids but he grew up as a duke's son, she grew up in a prison. Yes, he fought for her and he was awesome and you couldn't find one fault in him - but he was in love with a ghost. The girl he loved didn't exist anymore. They didn't really connect anymore. You could see the realization in his face every time she turned to Huntsman for help, not to him.

And that was why Snow and Huntsman FIT. He hadn't known her before. He knew only her current self. And he understood grief at the most basic level. I actually almost squeed when it was his kiss that woke her up. William's love was a child's infatuation, Huntsman had feelings for her as a woman. It might now have been a full fledged love yet, for that they didn't have enough time, but it was there.

Snow was amazing, so resilient! She knew what she wanted and she didn't let anybody stop her. But she was still a young girl with only one person she felt close to - Huntsman. When she rode into the last battle and he joined her, you could see just how much it boosted her self-confidence. And when she was crowned, you could see her searching the throne room, looking for him. And when she saw him, she almost glowed with happiness! Yeah, I'm shipping them HARD!

Everybody's praising Charlize Theron for the part of Ravenna but I thought she overplayed the it a bit. Maybe because to me, Stewart and Hemsworth both felt so natural in their parts, playing them subtly and quietly. So her raving and tears felt too... much, I guess.

The only bit I didn't like were the dwarves, that I admit. That was boring...

According to Deadline.com, SWATH might draw $55mil. at the US box office this weekend. I hope it does. I really liked it. Though I admit that without Stewart and Hemsworth, I might not have, at least not as much. They owned the movie.

Rating it 8/10!
