Sherlock Holmes: "A Scandal in Bohemia"
Dec. 14th, 2011 09:45 amSo, I managed to get my hands on S1 of Sherlock Holmes, featuring Jeremy Brett as Holmes and David Burke as Watson. I watched the first ep, called A Scandal in Bohemia and...
Oh God, it was boring! *head/desk* It just proves that a word-for-word transition from a short story to TV/film just does not fly. The story is, like, 10 pages long. And they managed to stretch it to 56 minutes! Without adding anything. Why? Oh, why? I could maybe, maybe see it as a 40 min. long episode but 56 frickin' minutes? Waaah! *head/desk* And the actors playing Irene Adler and the king, gosh, they were bad. I always thought that Irene was an energetic woman but what I saw here was a languid, limp creature... Yeesh.
The best thing were the scenes with Holmes and Watson. Those were excellent and I can see why these two seem to be the epitome of many Holmes and Watson classic slash stories/thoughts. The scene where Watson arrived home, wary of Holmes' mood, where he found the syringe and feared Holmes dosed himself with something again... Or the one where Watson was all eager to break the law for a good cause. Those were great!
Note to myself: Watch just the scenes with Holmes and Watson, ffwd through everything else or you'll die of boredom before you reach the end of S1!
