Started watching the British mini-series State of Play because of James McAvoy. Yes, I'm broadening my horizons thanks to him - but I refuse to watch movies a) where his character dies (and his characters die A LOT!) and b) that are too depressing (like The Last King of Scotland). So, State of Play it was for me...
It's an interesting series about a group of journalists that uncovers a conspiracy. The thing is, I don't like Cal and Della, the main characters, much. Cal's compromising his integrity way too much and Della is a chicken-shit, for an investigative reporter, that is. I like the secondary characters much better, like Helen, Pete or Cameron. And of course, James McAvoy's Dan.
For me, the show got really going with his introduction and not just because of him as an actor. His character brought in a much needed levity and I adore Dan's relationship with his father, Cameron. The funniest scene so far was when Cal and Della convinced Cameron to hire Dan and Cameron complained about his son and about his son's wife and about everything! That was so funny and Cal and Della couldn't contain their laughter.

Another thing is that with the introduction of Dan, the show's pace picked up because Dan's able to get information out of a stone! I had to laugh when he pulled off his wedding ring and went to flirt with the copy-shop guy to get info out of him. James McAvoy flirting with a guy... *_* You know, for a married man Dan has a finely tuned gay-dar.

A good show so far, I think. 4 eps to go :)
