In January 2011, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, the co-creators and co-writers of Sherlock, said that season 2 would go into production in May. I wonder if it's still true... I mean, I know that S2 is set to air in the fall, I don't have to have it right now, just knowing it's in production would be awesome :P

At the Kapow! Comic Con, Gatiss confirmed the three novels that the new episodes would be based on: “We knew after having a successful first run that the natural order would be to do three of the most famous [stories],” explained Gatiss to the audience, “being a version of A Scandal in Bohemia, a version of The Hound of the Baskervilles and a version of The Final Problem.”

The Hound of the Baskervilles saw the detective duo investigating the mystery of a phantom hound. In A Scandal in Bohemia, Sherlock found his intellectual equal, the beautiful Irene Adler. While in The Final Problem, Sherlock fought his arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty in one ‘final’ battle.

“There’s the question of how to go out on a cliffhanger and then the thematic things of the three stories, where we were trying to get to,” he said, “and what Sherlock and John’s relationship is a little further on. You can’t just go back to: ‘You have no emotions.’ ‘I don’t care.’ You’ve got to move on somewhere and make sure the other characters have something of a journey too.”

Gatiss also announced the writing line-up: “Steven [Moffat] wanted to do the twisted love story [A Scandal in Bohemia], I’m doing the Gothic horror [Baskervilles] and Steve Thompson is doing The Final Problem.” Link

I really hope that they don't turn Irene Adler into Sherlock's love interest, the way they did it in the movie with RDJ. But the fact that it's Steven Moffat's script gives me hope, he knows his audience REALLY well.

And "The Final Problem"... Ouch. I mean, it promises great action and emotions, this show's Moriarty is actually really, really scary. Still... It's the story in which Sherlock actually dies *bites fingernails* Also, it's written by Steve Thompson who wrote The Blind Banker, my least favorite movie of S1, so... *hands*

But I love that they don't want to go back to "no emotions" Sherlock. I'm glad they have no intention to forget that Moriarty did find Sherlock's one and only weakness in The Great Game - John. Sherlock's expression! I think that for the first time in his life, Sherlock was actually shaken and I'm glad that there will be some continuity.

What's your opinion?

Also, kick me, folks. I had no idea that Mark Gatiss, the co-creator and writer of Sherlock, is playing Mycroft. Seriously, how slow AM I?

I'm not happy about Steve Thompson writing. :( I didn't much care for TBB either. And gah, we are totally heading for another cliffhanger ending, with that lineup, aren't we?
