If you are looking for a very funny, very light on the gay material movie, Friends and Family is just the thing you are looking for. Why do I say "light on the gay material"? Well, there is no sex, no kissing (not even a peck on the cheek) and just one scene in which the gay couple holds hands. But it's still worth seeing.
Steven Torcelli and Danny Russo are ex-army rangers who now work as bodyguards for Don Patrizzi, a mob boss in New York but overall a really good guy who doesn't mind his enforcers being gay. Steven and Danny own a great house, a dog, they look great, wear stylish clothes and they love their job. But the thing is that Steven's parents don't know about what their son and his lover do for living - they think the boys are in the catering business. And thus, when Mom and Dad Torcelli decide to visit their son, it's up to the mafia to help the boys... and play gay!
This comedy is really funny. My favorite quotes?
"Richard, we need your balls!"
"If they want to kill me, they will have to rape me first."
"Mickey?"
"Rooney."
"Judy?"
"GARLAND!"
"How did you two meet?"
"We were army rangers. That was before 'Don't ask, don't tell'. We asked. We told."
And you know the funny thing? Steven and Danny are the only normal people in this comedy. Everybody else is bonkers in a really cute way. And there are some hilarious scenes. Richard teaching the tough guys how to behave "gay". Danny and Steven learning how to cook. Don Patrizzi's sons wanting to be a chef and a tailor respectively, not mob bosses. The militia turning their dinner into a disaster with drag queens in the middle.
This movie is really funny and light and just right for moments when you feel down and need cheering up! It's a here! original and you can buy it here. Worth seeing and slashing. Steven and Danny look so hot!
