According to TVGuide.com, SyFy's about to remake the old UK show Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)!

The network green-lit a reboot of the 1960s British cop show, to be executive-produced by Josh Bycel (Scrubs) and Jonathan Fener (American Dad).

The original series, which ran for 26 episodes in 1969-1970, starred Kenneth Cope as Marty Hopkirk, a private detective who returned from the dead to help his partner, Jeff Randall (Mike Pratt), solve crimes. A short-lived 2000 remake starred British comedy duo Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

"Josh and Jonathan have found a great way to update the buddy-cop formula with a supernatural twist," said Mark Stern, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming. "We look forward to working with them ... to bring new life to this British classic."

Man, I used to love the show. The British remake was a boring flop that shouldn't have ever happened, IMHO. But I'm really curious about the US version, what actors they'll choose etc. I'm so in for the buddy-cop formula!

You forgot the (Deceased) at the end of the show's name. :P It's important, that bit!

It does sound good, but I'm a little put off by Stern's quote. It doesn't seem like Josh and Jonathan have found a great way to update the buddy-cop formula, so much as Kenneth and Mike did, and now these two are taking that idea and running with it.

All the luck in the world to them, but I don't think credit for the idea's appropriately given by Mark.

Yes, I know. Shall I go have some coffee now? :D

Uh, I think you maybe misunderstood the quote? It wasn't meant that they found a way to update "the buddy-cop formula" with a supernatural twist but that they found a way to update "the buddy-cop formula with a supernatural twist", as in they found a new way to portray the PI and his ghost partner, update it for a new generation with something different - they aren't taking credit for the ghost story, but for how they'll change the ghost story for this series.
