That pairing makes much more sense than Sam/Castiel or Dean/Gabriel. I mean, Castiel likes Sam, of that there's no doubt, but from what we've seen, he doesn't care about him half as much as he cares about Dean. The same goes for Gabriel and Sam vs. Dean - Gabriel likes Sam more than Dean.
