"The Doors of Time" by felisblanco. Jared/Jensen slash. Summary: It’s not like he doesn’t try to fit in and make friends, he really does. It just seems like nothing he does is good enough for them. If he smiles they blink. If he speaks they stare. And whenever they see him coming they get this panicked look in their eyes like they want to run away and they don’t even know why. Words: 185.000 words - yes, 185.000! And that's just the main part!
Yes, that's where I've been hiding these last couple of days - instead of reading books or watching shows that keep piling up on my HDD, I've been re-reading this fic. I just got through the main part so "only" the timestamps remain - though they are up to 20.000 words too!
This fic is... It's amazing. Falling in the category of "magical realism", I guess, it simply gets you and won't let go. Jensen and Jared and Chris... they are all so real and vivid and full of color, not flat and two-dimensional. It's amazing, simply amazing!
He opens his eyes half a minute before the train arrives at his destination. It has happened he’s gotten so lost in his head the train has to wait for him to rouse, causing numerous curses and stressful outcries from his fellow travelers, but usually something tells him when to turn on again and ‘join the living’ like Chris likes to call it. Jensen doesn’t really think that is an accurate description. If anything he feels more alive in his head than he feels anywhere else.
It’s a bright spring day and he breathes in the crisp morning air as he strolls through Central Park. If it’s exceptionally cold he sometimes takes the subway closer but he likes the park and it’s soothing, having a little time to himself surrounded by what comes closest to nature in a city made of glass and cement. He’s frequently late for work because he forgets where he’s supposed to be going and instead wakes up lying on the grass, covered in leaves and flowers and with birds picking at his hair.
