It's a Canadian drama/comedy. It ran for three seasons, but each season only consists of a few episodes, so it's not a huge undertaking to watch it. ;)
It's about a small theater company. In season 1, they're doing Hamlet, in season 2, they're doing Macbeth, in season 3, they're doing King Lear. It's about the producers, the directors (dead and alive!) and the actors (both the stars and the bit-players), and about the plays themselves. It's about conflict and love and madness, and it's got an amazing amount of heart. I love it because it's funny and because of the amazing actors. Especially Paul Gross, as the director with a mental condition, is memorable. He's just got so much presence.
I guess that someone who absolutely loathes theater and Shakespeare might dislike it, but it's not like you need a BA in English to appreciate the humor and the heart-break of what goes on behind the scenes on a small-town theater company.
