According to Ausiello, SGU now has its lead: Robert Carlyle who will play "Dr. David Rush, the leader of a group of soldiers, scientists, and civilians who have been stranded on an ancient ship in the far reaches of space."

I have no idea who Carlyle is, never heard of him, to be honest. But I'm kinda confused: didn't they consider the cast/viewers of SGA too old? *scratches head* This actor is even older than Joe Flanigan and David Hewlett. Or do they want to balance out the young and hip crew with his age? Hm... And didn't they want a big Hollywood name to promote the show?

Still not really excited about SGU, though *sigh* I don't know, the whole idea just doesn't really appeal to me. We will see...

Um, wow. Robert Carlyle is VERY, VERY well known here. Wow.

I've really never heard of him. Never saw any of his movies. I thought that they would choose someone more... out there, more... I don't know, visible and known in the world in general. I mean, Carlyle is obviously a character actor which is great but I knew more about Joe Flanigan before SGA than I know of Carlyle.

I think Robert Carlyle is pretty well known in the US, as well as in the UK. He's also a very good actor.

I love Robert Carlyle! He was in Trainspotting and The Full Monty, both excellent movies. I was actually hoping he'd be the next Doctor, but oh well.

I guess he is, but I hoped for... I don't know. I don't know him at all and I hoped that I could at least get into the show for the older character even if I didn't like the young ones. But he's totally unknown to me, so he doesn't really draw me in, make me want to watch it, you know?

I hoped that they would choose a really big name, like CSI chose Lawrence Fishburn as a replacement for William Petersen. I have no idea who Carlyle is and even though I bet that he's a great actor, of that I have no doubt, it's not someone who would make me want to watch it because I saw and loved him in something else. Into SG-1, I got because I loved Richard Dean Anderson on MacGyver. Into SGA, I got because I loved Joe Flanigan in Family Album. I just don't know.

Well...maybe give him a go anyway. How about the rest of the casting for this show? Any other names released yet? Maybe some of them will grab you.

No one else, as of yet. The producers said that they wanted one big name and the rest totally new and fresh actors.

I will watch at least the premiere, that's for sure, but I would lie if I said that I wasn't disappointed. I mean, I don't doubt that he's a great actor, but he doesn't do anything for me when I see him. Because, let's face it, Richard Dean Anderson and Joe Flanigan as the leads were and still are hotties. But from the pictures of Carlyle that I saw... At least I can't say that I find him hot *shrugs*

He's the kind of guy that tends to look better when you see him moving and interacting with people, rather than in stills. Body language does a hell of a lot more for him than photographs.

Go watch The Full Monty! Or Trainspotting. Call it homework!

Hehe, I'm not sure if he's my type. On the other hand, I never found David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston hot either. Mostly, I thought they were really blah. That's why I never got into Dr. Who - when the lead doesn't do anything for me, the show is a bust too.

Yes, but that should have been Col. Everett Young. The rest should have been in their early twenties. Oh well *shrugs* Unfortunately, this guy is not really my type, someone that I would feel inclined to watch on regular basis. But maybe he'll turn out okay? Who knows. We will see...

I thought so, too. Or at least a brand name, like RDA was well-known for MacGyver. Or even Olmos over on Galactica is still known for Miami Vice etc.

Now, I know the name Robert Carlyle and, looking at his filmography, I recognize a few films but I don't immediately recall something specific about him. Which is what I thought they were going for.

I know that he was supposed to be the "old one" of the group but I thought he was military and now he seems civilian. With Stargate's penchant to put things more under military control, I wonder how long he will be leader. Well, maybe in that case he will since he has to oversee the Muppet Babies.

Yeah, that was my reaction too. I mean, a great character actor, lotsa awards, but will his name really speak to the sort of audience they crave? I mean, look at CSI, catching Lawrence Fishburn. I thought that they would go for someone like that...

I wonder if they ditched the idea of Col. Young then. Or will this doctor and the col. be the "parents"?

And I thought Dr.Rush was somehow related to McKay? Or the McKay figure? No idea anymore.

Ganz genau.

I just don't like the fact that it should be darker and the people should have ulterior motives etc. So what now? They want us to guess the "last Cylon" too?

*sarcasm*

I love Battlestar but that's a completely different show and Stargate writers trying to do Battlestar is bound to fail. Besides, why try in the first place? There is room for popcorn entertainment. In fact, I like and crave it.

Yup! Endlich wieder eine Sheppard Episode! Und es sieht auch ganz originell. Cooper hat meistens gute Ideen. Ich liebte seine Sateda Episode.
