Well, it got 3.96 million against next to no competition!! I expected there'd be rather large drops once other shows started premiering, woe. But the DVR viewership will be key - 4.02 saw a much larger percent increase in DVR viewership than 4.01 did, and I'd wager that's because of the increased competition. (4.03 and on haven't been released yet.)
And yes, ratings are down all across the board, which makes it even more commendable that our average this season is higher than last season's. There are network shows getting numbers that would have gotten them cancelled after one episode two years ago!! (Prison Break, Terminator, Pushing Daisies, etc.) Part of this is due to increased DVR usage and more DVRs being used in the Nielsen sample every year. Live+SD is becoming less and less important...
It might bounce back, it might not!! But I think the promo for next week's episode is really cool - I hope the CW airs it enough to get some decent exposure!!
