More Kripke stuff from the con
Mar. 30th, 2008 05:18 pmSome really encouraging news about Bela. Encouraging to me that is!
Question to Kripke: "I know I am in the minority, but I like the Bela character. However, the majority of fandom doesn't like her, how are you addressing this? Is she going to be in fourth season and how are you going to use her in the next couple of episodes?"
He said that he knew that most SPN fans hated Bela and he was really surprised at that reaction, but hears us now. He's heard the complaints (she's smarter than the boys, she sold them out, etc.) and he will be addressing those concerns in the finale. Bela will be in one episode of the final four.
He then polled the audience and asked who liked Bela, maybe 10 people clapped. Then, he asked who hated Bela and the rest of the people roared. So he knows most fans do not like her.
Plus, in that ep, we will get her backstory and it will not be a sad sob story, but a "kick ass" explanation of why she's involved in the supernatural world. He said this was also being used as a reason to tie her character into the mytharc, which is why he thought Bela was not working.
Bela will also have a cliffhanger in the finale and Dean and Sam will finally outsmart her and she will be made to look the fool, not them! (Yeah, he listened to us about that).
He made a cute comment to the question-er personally, saying, "I think you and I are the only ones who like Bela and thank you for that." He said he couldn't talk about casting for fourth season, as they were working on things, so I took that as Bela may or may not be back for fourth season. He did say he loved Lauren as an actress.
Ruby is not going to be killed. He said, "To all the Ruby-haters, sorry but she's not going anywhere. I like her character. She fits into the mytharc."
I read that as Katie will be back fourth season.

Kripke did tell us he felt the biggest mistake he made with Bela was letting her outsmart the boys one too many times.
The applause was huge!
He said he does plan to explain how she fits into the myth arc to make her character "fit" better. He then went on to reassure us that she will NEVER be redeemed. "You can’t shoot Sam, tow the Impala, send Gordon the psychotic hunter after the boys, know Dean has a death sentence and steal the colt and have the boys say, ’it’s alright Bela, lets be friends now.’" He also said, if we don’t like Ruby, tough, she’s staying. (and he laughed).
But Bela’s future in season four is definitely in question!!

Ah, it makes me so happy to see that Kripke has finally started to listen to what the majority of the fandom had been trying to tell him from Day One of the Bela. Finally. Though I'm afraid that nothing he would do with the character now could make people like her or at least like to hate her. He alienated too many fans with her hitherto portrayal.
And the audience's response to his question about who in the auditorium actually liked Bela filled me with utter glee! Ha!
