Good books vs. Bad books...
Apr. 21st, 2006 10:43 pmYou know what's the most horrible thing in finding the perfect book? That you compare all the other books you read to it... And mostly find them lacking. Regular visitors of this LJ know, that the "perfect book" means "The Ukiah Oregon Series" by Wen Spencer for me. I finished 3 books from this series in one week. Paint me obsessed. And now I took "Echoes of Lies" by Jo Bannister... and found it very much lacking in every department.
As much as I liked the character of Daniel in the later books in the "Brodie Farrell Mysteries", I really don't like him here. He should be nominated for sainthood... but it's pretty much annoying and not endearing. I hate people who take blow after blow without fighting back. If someone did to me what they have done to Daniel, I would scream blood hell the moment I recognize them. And even if I decided to wait until "spoiler", I would have let the cops arrest all the people responsible after the "spoilery deed" was over and done with. I wouldn't just forgive and forget. Yeah, color me vicious and vindictive.
*sigh* Well, lets just say that if this would have been the first book I read in this series, I wouldn't have bought the others. In the later stories, Daniel IS cute and endearing. In this one, he is simply annoying and even what he went through can't force me to sympathize with him :(

"The Ukiah Oregon Series"
Date: 2006-04-23 09:11 pm (UTC)Library is also getting me two gay mystery novels...unfortunately "The Magic in Your Touch" Isn't available and I really want to read that one.
In non-slash/yaoi fiction, a friend recommended me to read "Sabriel" by Garth Nix...Its okay so far if you like the mixing of both old and new world things, but I find the reading of it a little off..like the grammer is incorrect in certain areas.
*hugs*
