Doctor Who 307-313
Jul. 14th, 2014 11:58 pmBlink. The BEST EPISODE so far. It was simply amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Just... wow. If anyone ever - EVER - tells me again that Steven Moffat is not a good writer, I will call them on their bullshit and laugh in their biased face. Not for nothing is this episode rated 9.8/10 with thousands of voters on IMDB.
Other than that? Eh. Unlike with Christopher Eccleston whom I intensely dislike because he rubs me wrong in so many ways, I actually like David Tennant, he's a sweet guy and it's just sad that he wasn't given a better material to work with. Because the way 10 treated Mickey, Martha and even Jack... all that totally undermined my opinion of the character of 10.
Speaking of Jack. So, both 9 and 10 knew. They knew that Jack was alive and they left him there, on the derelict station, dealing with his immortality - that he didn't choose, he was ready to die - and the consequences of it - of, I might point out, Rose's fumble. Both 9 and 10 put Rose on a pedestal, made her the icon of perfection, but Jack was suddenly an abomination. Not Rose because of she did to him. No, she made a human mistake. Jack, who frickin' did not choose any of that, was the bad one, the one not worth visiting, the one not even worthy of an explanation. Ugh... The Face of Boe twist was funny, though.
And Martha. The 1914 double episode where the Doctor turned human - so, so cringe-worthy as far as Martha's character was concerned. Always second best. ALWAYS, in a reality where the Doctor did not know Rose. I was so glad that she finally found her backbone and called him on his BS and left. Good for her! The pediatrist was cute!
And Martha's mother... Let's just not.
The Master... Interesting prospect. I can understand why people think their relationship was slashy. Because it was. This might be interesting if they ever come back to it.
So, my opinion at the end of S3? 10 > 9. Definitely. But only because of David Tennant. If someone less likable played the part, I don't think I would be this forgiving of the writing.
